Week Ending 24th February
Tuesday 19thA busy trial day for us with 10 dogs going to Swindon.
Gortkelly Hudini completed his comeback from injury with a 29.57 effort.
The unraced Wagama went ever so well in her first four bend trial as she popped out and led all the way to record 30.08.
Nickys Love delighted me with her first four bend trial as she broke well and led the very useful Southern Angel until the third bend before getting slightly lost but she still recorded a very pleasing 29.39. Angel stayed the trip very well as she went on to win by nearly 6 lengths in a good 28.89.
Taranis Rex continued his come back with a good 16.36 and will be stepped up to four bends next week. He beat Saleen Tompajoe by a couple of lengths.
Lady Maud (17.28), Lord Sugar (17.01) and Jolly Be Good (16.96) all went well enough in their return from injury while Rainham Chris posted 16.54 in a solo.
Wednesday 20th
2 winners from this evening's meeting at Swindon. Glendine Girl flew the lids and led all the way to win her A5 in good style.
Droopys Harper ran a super race to win his S1 after coming from behind the useful Forest Bonjo. Harps showed very good middle pace and looked to have got stronger for his 6 bend run the week before as he always looked like holding on at the finish. He'll be kept for the bags competition that's coming up soon.
Forest Mollie posted 28.53 in a pre race trial as she qualified back for a graded race or two in the hope to get her qualified for bags comp.
Thursday 21st
Back to Hove tonight with 2 trial dogs and 3 runners.
Droopys Danneel pinged the lids and led kennel mate Tibetan Skies all the way in a very good 29.77. Tibetan flew down the back straight and looked like taking the lead at the third bend but was forced to check but he still came home with a rattle and will improve for the look. He'll make his UK debut next week in a maiden while Dani will go back for a bitches race.
Slippery Patch was the star of the show as he won a top class 515m open in good style. The confidence boosting win at Swindon last week seems to have done him the world of good.
Gemstone Jack ran a very good race and looked like going close before being forced wide off the last bend. Barnish Booth missed timed the break but ran well enough in his 475m open.
Friday 22nd
A busy day for us with 17 runners at 3 meetings.
Firstly to Swindon where we managed 3 winners. Off The Radar ran a great race to beat kennel mate Express Fantasy to win their A2 in 29.22.
Der Lone Razor always looked like winning when he turned handy off the 2nd bend sand led on the run in to win his A3 in 29.46.
Billyboy got his first career win as he led at the first bend to win his A8 by 2 lengths in 29.85.
On to Romford where we had 5 runners.
Rainham Chris got off the mark at the first time of asking in open class company as he led at the first bend to win his maiden 400m race by 3 1/2 lengths in 24.50. This was Chris's first race in nearly 3 months and he'll improve nicely for the run.
Jolly Fagan and Saleen Tompajoe were both out of luck in their races as suffered early crowding. Gemstone Annie ran with credit in her 575m maiden open and was unlucky to come up against a very decent prospect of Mark Wallis's. She'll head back on Friday for another go though.
We finished the night with a winner as Ding Hero took full advantage of some early crowding to nip round on the rail and went on to win in good style. He'll also head back their next week before probably going to Monmore for their 630m festival competition.
Saturday 23rd
A busy night at Swindon where we had 9 runners, unfortunately we were guaranteed 4 losers before we even started as we had a three runners in the A1 and a couple of doubles as well.
Hey Diego and Chilli Hot Sauce both ran in the D1 and it was Diego who took us a little bit by surprise as he flew the lids and made all to beat Chilli by over 3 lengths in a very useful 16.19. He's a very classy little dog as his 28.60 open win proved last year but we've never really considered him a sprinter but he showed a touch of class and won well. He's likely to be our contender for the 'dogs' race in the bags comp provide Swindon can give him some regular races.
Forest Mollie was made to work hard by kennel mate Alarming Jacks to win the A1. Jacks showed great early and flew down the back but Mollie stayed on strongly to pass her on the run in and win by 1 3/4 in 28.78. It would be lovely to have both of these girls in the bags comp if Swindon can get them qualified in time.
Sunday 24th
Two meeting's this evening as we had 4 runners at Coventry and Jolly Bullseye down at Sittingbourne.
Jolly made the journey more than worth while as he won his 480m open in good style. He was made to work hard by the very decent Lenson Champ but always looked like holding that rival and won by 3/4 of a length in 29.08. He'll head to Wimbledon on Saturday night to gain some valuable experience of the Plough Lane circuit.
All the dogs ran really well at Coventry and we were a shade unlucky to only come away with one winner.
Swords Brett ran his best race for a while as he was narrowly beaten by the very useful Ballycowen Dave. Brett got a much needed clear run and looked back to his best as he recorded a good 29.38.
Swords Messi showed guts and determination in abundance as he forced his way to the front around the opening bend and really dug deep to hold of Highfire Jazz by a neck in 29.70. Messi has now won 6 of his 15 starts for the kennel.
Pony Bride ran a decent race in the top division of the marathon but was beaten fair and square by a very good winner.
Crinkill Jewel flew the lids but just lacked a yard of early and got badly crowded on the bend. She's worked her socks off though to get back in to the race and was a fast finishing third. She'll head back to Cov again next week.
