Week Ending 8th July
Monday 2ndA couple of winners to start the week with.
Droopys Harper made it 3 wins from 4 as he ran one of his best races so far to pick kennel mate Lord Sugar up on the line. He won in 29.19.
Malbay Kesha made it 2 wins on the spin as she won her A2 in 29.40.
Tuesday 3rd
Oddson Whiskey went well in her 685m trial recording 42.49.
Hey Rodrigo (30.40), Fishermans Leah (29.41), Gemstone Annie (29.62), Riverdale Spiros (29.60) all moved well enough in their 4 bend trials.
Express Fantasy (16.74) and Inismor Impact (16.80) both went well in their return from the sidelines. Young pups, Irdu Brannagh (17.89) and Irdu Gormlaith (17.99) both ran green in their first look at the track.
Wednesday 4th
Just the one winner tonight as kennel legend Stanton Jerry won his A2 in 29.18.
Thursday 5th
A trip to Oxford this evening with 3 runners.
Five Alley Pub got his first win this side of the Irish Sea as he ran a very good race to beat the useful Forest Bonjo by 1 1/2 in a good 39.88.
Kilmalady Biffo was out of luck in his open and he'll be given a short rest before returning to action.
Barnish Booth just miss timed the start and came up with the lids. He showed plenty of pace after that and wont be long in winning again.
Friday 6th
Although we had 3 winners from today's meetings it will be remembered as a very bad day as we suffered the loss of veteran Shelbourne Bella. Bella hadn't been with us long but was a lovely old girl. She shattered her hock off the 2nd bend and there was nothing that could be done for her.
Butchers Bounty led on the run in to win his A3 in 29.68.
Hoots Mon won a messy top grade race well by 6 3/4 lengths in a good 28.93. Hoots isn't quite up to the open race scene but loves Swindon. Hopefully he'll get enough runs in top grade.
Fishersmans Leah won her first race back after her cough as she led all the way to win the A2 in 29.29.
The bad luck continued at Romford tonight as the very useful Portavoe Lass suffered a hairline fracture of the hock. She ran a great race to finish 2nd after bad trouble but faces a long, tough road to make a return to racing.
Saturday 7th
Tonight was Produce Stakes night and we were lucky enough to have 5 hounds involved in the first round. Hey Rodrigo led his race to the 3rd bend before he suffered from his severe cramping problem again and faded back to last.
We were drawn with 3 of our runners in the same heat but luckily managed a 1-2-3 to see all of them safely through to the next round. Chilli Hot Sauce flew the lids and led Gemstone Jack by a couple of lengths out the 2nd bend. Jack turned on the turbo down the back though to lead at halfway, Jack went on to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a personal best 29.04. Gemstone Annie ran a very good race back in third and is sure to improve for the run.
Although beaten on the night, the run of Hey Diego pleased me more than anything. In only his 3rd career start, Gelert ran the useful Romeo Recruit to 3 1/2 lengths in a fast 28.70. To think this lad was on his death bed a few months ago due to a mystery virus makes this run nothing short of a miracle. He's a very special little dog but I don't think he'll be seeing the A4 grade again anytime soon!
In a pre race trial, Yeatsie Boy recorded 28.72, Kelseys Prince 28.76 and Flag Officer 29.34.
