Week Ending 1st January 2012
Monday 26th
Not much to report from today's meeting as we pretty much got what we thought as we returned empty handed.
Tuesday 27th
No trials today due to the bank holiday and with the loss of a couple of Saturday night meetings the gallop has been very busy. During this week it's been used on 63 occasions and is in lovely condition. Mercurial Star continues to work well on his return from injury. So long as the weather is kind to us and the track improves, he'll head to Swindon soon for a trial as we get him ready for a crack at the Arc once again.
Wednesday 28th
Another poor night at Swindon as we didn't manage a winner from our 9 runners.
Today, Coolykereen Jig, was taken home by his owners after being retired from racing due to his gracilis injury. Jiggy managed a good 9 wins from his 53 winners and will have a great retirement.
Thursday 29th
Portavoe Lass was the star of the show for the kennel this evening at Hove. She ran out a very impressive winner of a 695m maiden open in a good 41.63. She won going away by 4 1/2 lengths and was full of running into the drop. It was another horrible wet night and the going on the inside was not great so this was a superb effort by her in only her 2nd UK race. She'll head to Romford next week for a maiden marathon.
Penskey Rain ran well in a very hot open over the 695m trip but again it looked liked he needs further nowadays and he's another who will head to Romford next week for a marathon.
Kilmalady Biffo again ran well in defeat after missing the break but he's returned with a few niggles and will be given a month's rest. He's been on the go for a while now so it'll do him good to have a break.
Friday 30th
A couple of winners from today's meetings. Butchers Bounty just got the better of a very unlucky kennel mate Noels Touch by a nk in 29.70.
Der Lone Razor ran a blinder to win on his first race back from a spell off. Spud was crowded all the way on the run up and around the corner and found himself plum last at the second bend but he plugged away and made a tremendous amount of ground up to win by 3/4 of a length in 29.93. He was full of running into the pick up and looks a stayer in the making.
