Week Ending 23rd December
Monday 17th
Another busy start to the week with 7 going to trials at Perry Barr for a look round in preparation for the Bags Track championship and 7 runners at Swindon's afternoon meeting.
First to Perry Barr where most of our dogs handled themselves well. Gemstone Billy got a little lost on his way to recording 40.90. Express Fantasy beat Sligo Mick by 3/4 of a length in 28.88. Stanton Apollo ran the track very well as he beat Gemstone Meg by nearly 6 lengths in a fastest of the session 28.33. Droopys Harper pleased us with his 28.50 run and Hoots Mon recorded 16.26 in his solo sprint.
The dogs ran well at Swindon as we had a couple of winners and three 2nd's.
Black Beach just got the better of kennel mate Active Lark on the line to win a decent little A2 race. Der Lone Razor continued his good recent form to score in another A3.
Tuesday 18th
11 dogs were sent to trials at Swindon this morning and it was a fairly good trial session for us.
Five Alley Pub beat Portavoe Lass by nearly 6 lengths in a fastest of the session 28.66. Gemstone Jack continued his come back with another good solo trial, he stopped the clock at 28.58.
Mullingar Mer (16.48), Smoothoppa Razor (16.64), Witcome Lady (16.77), Chilli Spring (16.70), Swarez (16.61), Saleen Tompajoe (16.61), Alarming Alan (16.72) and Droopys Danneel (16.24) all went well in their sprints.
Thursday 20th
A big night for the kennel with 3 runners in the maiden derby final at Henlow and Forest Mollie in the Oaks final at Wimbledon. Although we didn't manage to win either, I was still very pleased with the efforts of our dogs. Forest Mollie showed her greenness as she moved out from the 2 box and hit the 4 dog on the run up but made up tremendous ground down the back straight and coming home to finish 3rd. This was a fantastic effort by such a novice to finish 3rd in the premier bitches event of the year and she has a huge future in front of her. She'll be kept quiet now over the winter but will be back to contest the major races of next year. She should also have a big future in the breeding paddocks after her racing career as she is from a super litter that includes many top class dogs running in Ireland.
Jolly Bullseye missed the break and got crowded on the bend but ran a very decent race to finish 2nd, only beaten 3/4 of a length. The ground at Henlow was very poor again (it was running a full second slow) and this wouldn't have been ideal for our lad that's for sure. I really like this dog and he'll be a major part of our open race team next year. Swords Messi ran a very good race on the quiet as he finished 4th. Messi looked like turning the bend handy but was struck into by Jolly and his chance was gone. This lad will soon be winning opens.
Ding Hero ran his heart out in a supporting open to the Oaks final. Ding pinged the lids from a less than ideal trap 5 and made all of the running until a couple of strides before the line where he was picked up by Bubbly Swallow. Ding will enjoy a short rest now before we have a go at the Golden Jacket with him. We should have a strong team for this next year as we hope to run Crinkil Jewel, Pony Bride, Portavoe Lass and Five Alley Pub as well.
Friday 21st
A fairly poor day at Swindon with just the one winner from today's meetings. Flag Officer won first time up since returning from injury as he just held on to win his A2.
Sunday 23rd
We were lucky enough to have 4 dogs representing Swindon today in the Bags Championship finals at Perry Barr. As it turns out we and Swindon had no luck at all in running as we didn't manage to find a winner. All of our dogs suffered plenty of crowding in running and Newcastle ran out deserving winners of the competition. We did well to make the finals though and had a good time along the way, winning 4 legs with our dogs. A lot has been made of the disappointing finish in the finals but I don't think we did too much wrong as far as team selections etc go. It might well be worth planning a little more in advance for next year though as we had 2 or 3 very nice dogs that could have made the team but couldn't due to the lack of graded races that they were given. Swords Brett and Ballyhill Power would have been very good in this comp but neither were qualified to run. Other tracks weren't afraid to keep their best dogs in A1's at short odds just to get them qualified which is something we didn't do.
On to Coventry this evening as we had 6 runners and 3 triallers.
The very useful Droopys Danneel really pleased me with her 29.58 trial win before racing. Dani hasn't done too much work at home due to the weather and hasn't been over 4 bends in months so this was a very good run. Alarming Jacks (formally Ballyhill Power) was beaten just under 3 lengths by Dani which was also a good run. Power has been struggling for runs at Swindon (3 races in over 6 weeks) so this will have been a good workout for her and also good experience. Saleen Tompajoe disappointed as he was a further 7 lengths back in 3rd.
Barnish Booth got the night off to a winning start as he pinged the lids and ran a very brave 1st bend to take up the lead, he was never in danger and won in a decent 29.40.
Glenbane Air was out of luck in his sprint race as he was clipped from behind at the bend. Portavoe Lass and Five Alley Pub both ran a little flat in their 6 bend open but it's fair to say that both needed the run and neither have shown their best form around Coventry.
Kelseys Prince was unlucky in his 4 bend race as he missed the break and got crowded on the run up and at the bend but he stuck to his task well and flew off the last bend where he was again crowded but he still wasn't beaten far and will relish the switch back to Hove that he'll have on Thursday.
The fast improving Swords Brett made sure the night ended on a high as he pinged the lids and led all the way to win his 4 bend open. Brett is one of the few dogs of ours that has managed to win first time up around there and his winning time of 29.45 was a great effort. He'll also head to Hove next week.
This was one of the best night's racing I've enjoyed in a long time, there was a really good crowd and the atmosphere was brilliant. The racing was very good with plenty of variation to the card which also included a match race which went down a storm. We'll be supporting Coventry as much as we can next year. Their increased prize money in the opens is also very good. I know we managed a couple of winners on the night but our 6 runners earned £660 which is superb. This gives our owners a fair chance of covering their kennels bills and enables us to charge a reasonable amount to cover diesel and wage costs involed with travelling. The rest of the industry really does need to follow Coventry's example.

In Other News....
We've been busy behind the scenes purchasing some lovely new stock for next year and we've managed to find some lovely additions to both the open team and graded strength. These will be offered for sale in the next week or two.
In the next post I'll be going through some of the highlights from 2012 and naming a few 'ones to watch' as well that should be worth following.

Sunday, 16 December 2012

Week Ending 16th December
Monday 10th
Two winners to start the week off with. Winetavern Tadgh held on gamely to win his A2 by a neck in 29.12 and Der Lone Razor got a much deserved win in his A3. Spud won by 3/4 of a length in 29.43.
Tuesday 11th
Trials were cancelled this morning due to the fog.
Wednesday 12th
Romford firstly where we had 3 runners. Kelseys Prince cramped up in his race, a hot 575m maiden and finished down the field. Pony Bride had the legs run off her in the 925m marathon but ran OK. The track was flying and whatever led won. Ding Hero won his 750m maiden marathon in good style. Ding didn't ping the lids but ran a gutsy first bend to get his head in front and stretched the field out nicely in the middle part of the race and kicked again on the run in when challenged. He's now won opens over 4, 6 and 8 bends and will be given one more race at Wimbledon next Thursday night before being rested until the new year.
Another couple of winners at Swindon with Active Lark and Gemstone Billy on the mark.
Larky cracked out and led all the way to win her A2 by 3/4 of a length in 28.88. Gemstone Billy ran a brilliant 3rd bend to bully his way to the front and went on to win by over 6 lengths in a personal best 29.16. Billy will now head off to Perry Barr for a 6 bend trial.
Thursday 13th
A brilliant night at Henlow for us as we qualified all 3 of our runners for the Maiden Derby final.
Swords Messi ran a gutsy first bend and always looked like qualifying in 2nd place behind a good winner.
Jolly Bullseye improved nicely from last week's run as he broke well and led all the way in his heat. Bullseye really opened up down the back and won well. He's not coming home too well at the moment but will only get stronger and is a lovely dog in the making.
Bellmore Woody behaved himself perfectly in his heat as he came away well from the 1 box and led all the way. I thought woody was going to be challenged off the last bend but he just kicked again and did it nicely in the end. He stays that trip very well and it would be nice to see him in front again. Although we have half of the field in next week's final we are not taking anything for granted. It's a very competitive race and a win will be hard earned.
Friday 14th
A quiet day at Swindon as we had no runners on the afternoon meeting and just a handful at night. Black Beach ran well to finish runner up in a good A2. Flag Officer (28.99), Ring The Alarm (29.02) and Chilli Hot Sauce (29.55) all went well enough in their pre race trials.
Saturday 15th
Another brilliant night for us as Forest Mollie qualified for the final of the Oaks at Wimbledon. Mollie ran a very good race to finish 2nd to the fantastic Droopys Loner and always looked like qualifying after a good break and turning handy down the back straight. It's quite an achievement for Mollie to make it through to a Classic final in only her 12th ever career start and she's a great prospect to have in the kennel for next year. Win, lose or draw, Thursday will be a great way to finish off what has been an unbelievable year for the kennel with the Oaks final and Henlow Maiden Derby.
Over at Swindon we had a couple of winners from 6 runners.
Swords Brett delighted us with his win this evening as he won his A2 easily in a good 28.61. Brett has taken a while to settle in but is coming forward all the time now and should make a nice member of our open race team next year. It's a shame Swindon let him go a couple of weeks without a run as he would have made a nice member of the team for the Perry Barr Championship team.
Winetavern Tadgh continued his good recent form as he won his A2 by a short head in 29.11.
Ballyhill Power ran well in defeat as she tackled A1 for the first time. Power had again waited 2 weeks for a run so she did very well to record a personal best time of 28.85. She'll be taken out open racing soon as she needs more consistent runs than she's currently getting. She's another really nice prospect for next year.

Sunday, 9 December 2012

Week Ending 9th December
Monday 3rd
One winner form our 5 runners today. Vevas Tiger ran her best race for the kennel as she led all the way to win her A3 by 2 lengths in a personal best 29.12. The going on the inside was very poor which makes her run even better. She's now won 4 of her 9 races for us.
Tuesday 4th
We had 7 dogs going to Swindon for trials this morning.
Pony Bride was given a 685m blow out and went well to record 41.62. Barnish Booth beat Chilli Hot Sauce by 5 lengths in 28.86. Mullingar Mer (16.29), Flag Officer (16.48), Droopys Danneel (16.33) and Smoothoppa Razor (16.56) all pleased us with their sprint trials.
Wednesday 5th
One winner for the kennel this evening as Moody Mare led all the way in her A3 to win by just over a length in 29.35.
Thursday 6th
We had 3 runners at Henlow for the first round of the maiden derby and managed to get them all safely through in to the semi finals next week. The track was horrendous after the salt mixed with the snow and rain to create an absolute bog and it was very hard work for the dogs.
Swords Messi ran a very game race to finish 2nd in his heat, beaten just over a length. Messi took a touch out the boxes and got some crowding on the bend but ran the track well and certainly benefited from the look round last week.
Bellmore Woody made his debut for the kennel and although he finished 3rd and always looked like qualifying, we were less than impressed with his performance. Woody ran a great first 2 bends to get himself in contention and looked like he might win the race but drifted across to the dog on the outside and had a look at him. Although he didn't do anything wrong in the race it was a close call and he fought in to the drop.
Jolly Bullseye also made his debut for the kennel and ran an absolute stormer to finish 2nd. Jolly was crowded early as he made a dash for the inside and took a couple of knocks on the bend but fairly flew down the back and into the 'third straight' and although tiring close home he always looked like getting through. He'll improve massively for the run and given a good draw next week will have a great chance to make the final. He's a very nice dog.
Friday 7th
A quiet day for us at Swindon with only 5 runners in the afternoon and nothing at night. We did manage to come away with a winner as Express Fantasy made it 2 wins on the spin as she led on the run in to win her A2 by 1/2 a length in 29.11.
On to Romford where we had Slippery Patch in the Essex Vase semi finals and Ding Hero in a minor open. Patch ran like a tired dog as he was eliminated in 4th place. He never really showed anything and will be given a rest now. Ding looked back to his brilliant best as he pinged the lids and ran away with his race, winning by 11 lengths in a fastest of the night 35.27. Ding is a cracking dog when he leads but he's a bit inconsistent at the lids. He'll head back to Romford for the SKY night next Wednesday.
Saturday 8th
Forest Mollie made it through to the semi finals of the Oaks at Wimbledon tonight as she finished 3rd in her heat. She stumbled slightly at the boxes and was forced to checked at the first bend but showed huge pace down the back to get herself in to contention and came home strongly to nick 3rd spot. We've drawn trap 1 again next week but we'll need to come away better to have a chance in what is a very decent race.
Off The Radar continued his excellent form for the kennel as he led home Gemstone Meg to win the A2 in 28.95. He's now won 4 of his 13 races for us.

Tuesday, 4 December 2012

Week Ending 2nd December
Monday 26th
A busy start to the week with 6 dogs going for trials at Poole in preparation for the Bags Championship and the usual afternoon meeting at Swindon.
Sligo Mick beat Riverdale Spiros by 1 3/4 lengths in a good 27.26. Mick was slowly into stride and found his way round while spiros hugged the rails but stumbled coming out of the 2nd bend.
Stanton Apollo, who is improving rapidly, really pleased us with his fastest of the session 26.82. He banged the lids and actually hit the rail at the 2nd bend so there's probably a bit of time to come with him still. Hoots Mon was 4 1/4 lengths behind Apollo, he was slowly away and will certainly benefit from the look round.
Chilli Hot Sauce pinged the lids but lost her way going into the 2nd bend where Active Lark took up the running. She went on to win the trial by 4 3/4 lengths in a decent 27.02.
We had one winner at Swindon. Express Fantasy got her first win since returning from seasonal rest as she led all the way to win her A2 by 3 1/2 lengths in 28.87. Fanta really needed this season and she looks a different bitch now so we're hopeful that we haven't seen the best of this girl yet.
Boynepark Joe ran well in defeat and won't be long in winning for his new owners, The House of Razor syndicate so long as he gets a few consistent runs now.
Tuesday 27th
A quiet trial session for us with just 4 dogs going to Swindon. Gemstone Jack recorded a fastest of the session 28.50 in his first trial since being disqualified at Coventry. I Certainly May rejoined the graded strength with her 29.62 trial win. Flag Officer returned from 3 months off lame to record a decent 16.45 and Mullingar Mer had her first outing since being knocked over at Coventry with a 16.40 solo.
Wednesday 28th
No luck this evening from our 5 runners.
Thursday 29th
A rare trip to Henlow tonight with 3 racers and 3 trial dogs.
Jolly Bullseye  (28.20), Bellmore Woody (28.34) and Swords Messi (28.46) all went well enough in their trials and will head back next week to contest the maiden derby.
Glenbane Air ran the track well after missing the break in his sprint open and finished 3rd. Kilmalady Biffo and Crinkill Jewel disappointed in their opens and will both be given a nice rest now over winter.
Friday 30th
We'll start at Romford where we had Ding Hero and Slippery Patch contesting the 1st round of the Essex Vase. Patch ran a very gutsy race as he was crowded out the boxes and at the bend but stayed on well to qualify in 3rd place. He has a tough semi final next week but he should improve for the run. Ding Hero missed the kick and was crowded straight out of the boxes and finished 4th.
We had 3 winners at Swindon during the day. Glendine Girl led at the halfway point to win her A4 by 2 lengths in 29.39. Gemstone Meg made it 2 wins on the spin as she led on the run in to win her A2 by 1/2 a length in 29.05. Meg is learning fast now and has lots of ability, she'll make in to a lovely bitch next year. Kelseys Prince won his first race back after 4 months out with a shoulder injury as he made light work of his A1 contest. Prince broke well enough but paced up to the bend nicely and was always in control once he led around the bend. He went on to win by 5 lengths in a good 28.45.
Saturday 1st December
A busy day for the kennel with meeting's at Poole, Swindon and Wimbledon.
We'll start at Poole where we had 3 runners representing Swindon in the Bags Championship. Active Lark ran really well in defeat as she finished 3rd. Stanton Apollo ran a fabulous race as he won the standard division. Apollo missed the kick but showed a lot of guts to lead off the last bend to win by 1 3/4 lengths in a good 26.99. Apollo has been in cracking form and has won 3 of his 6 races since joining from Ireland. Hoots Mon missed the trouble on the bend in the Dogs division and held on to win by a neck in 26.86. Hoots has been terrific for Swindon throughout the competition winning 2 legs and finishing 3rd at Oxford. Swindon qualified for the grand final at Perry Barr in the 23rd December and it should be a great day.
Forest Mollie qualified for the Oaks quarter finals as she finished 2nd in her 1st round heat. Mollie missed the kick and ran a bit green on the run up but ran a brilliant first 2 bends to turn 2nd to St Leger semi finalist, Ballintine Molly who eventually beat us by 3 lengths in 28.88. We've a very tough draw next time and her inexperience may cost her but there's no doubt Mollie has huge ability and win, lose or draw on Saturday she will be a fantastic bitch for next year.
Ballyhill Power won at only the second time of asking as she led all the way to win a decent A2 contest by 1/2 a length in 28.91. Power is still a bit green in running but has some cracking early pace and will stay stronger all the time now as she's no where near fit yet. She would be ideal for the Bags final but it would be touch and go if we could get another 3 races in to her in time to qualify her.

Monday, 26 November 2012

Week Ending 25th November
Monday 19th
Two Winners to begin the week with.
Black Beach won his A2 going away by 4 lengths in 28.78 and Vevas Tiger continued her excellent form since returning from seasonal rest as she won her A4 by 1 1/4 lengths in 29.55.
We also had 2 runners at Romford in the Coral on TV Stayers Trophy. Hiding Escort ran a superb race to qualify for the final after lots of trouble early on, unfortunately he returned lame and won't make the final. Slippery Patch was out of luck in his heat after a messy race. He finished 3rd but it was good experience of the track for him.
Tuesday 20th
A good trial session for us at Swindon today. Bellmore Woody delighted us with his 28.39 trial win. It's taken 3 months of hard work to get this lad ready for racing again since arriving from Ireland and if he stays sound could easily prove to be one of our top dogs. He'll head to Henlow next week to complete his qualifying trials and possibly have a go at their Maiden Derby. Kelseys Prince moved well to record 28.44 and his shoulder injury is holding up well. Chilli Spring re qualified in 29.62 after cramping last time out. Boozed Aroma (16.39), I Certainly May (16.80) and Chilli Hot Sauce (16.52) all went well enough in their sprint trials.
Wednesday 21st
A trip to the vets this morning. Hiding Escort faces a 2-3 month spell on the sidelines with a wrist injury picked up at Romford. Recent arrival, Alarming Alan is 2-3 weeks away from having his first gallop for us as he gets over a slight wrist sprain.
No luck at tonight's Swindon meeting.
Thursday 22nd
Pony Bride ran a brilliant race for us this evening in a very hot marathon live on Sky at Wimbledon. She finished a close up 4th and ran with real credit.
Friday 23rd
A brilliant day for the kennel as we won 8 of the 9 races that we contested.
Gemstone Billy finally got a run over the 6 bends today and led on the run in to win his S2 by 1/2 a length in 41.94. Litter mate, Gemstone Meg, got her first win since returning from injury as she won a decent A2 contest by a short head in 28.76. Meg has plenty of ability and is learning fast, she may well be ready for a maiden open sometime soon.
Off The Radar ran a very game race to hold by a head to win his A2 in 29.02. Radar is a lovely dog and has done very well since joining the kennel.
Zamboni Zazzle clearly learnt plenty from her first run last week as she led around the first bend this evening and won going away by 6 1/4 lengths in 29.97. Zazzle is a lovely little character in the kennel and looks to stay all day. It will be interesting to see how she handles the step up in class next time out.
Scaffs Misty also got her first career win this evening as she led around the first bend to win by 4 1/4 lengths in 29.42.
Swords Messi took the step up in class well tonight as he won a good A1 contest by 2 lengths in 28.79. Messi showed good back pace before tiring a bit coming home. It's possible he'll also head to Henlow next week for a trial.
On to Romford where we had 3 runners in 2 races. Slippery Patch ran a very gutsy race to get up on the line in his 575m open. It was a much improved run from Monday night and he'll head back to Romford next week for the Essex Vase.
Portavoe Lass won her 750m marathon open by a head in a personal best 47.51 and will more than likely head back there again next week.
Saturday 24th
Firstly to Monmore where we were out of luck with our 3 runners. Kilmalady Biffo missed the break in his 416m open and met trouble at the 3rd bend. Taranis Rex missed the kick and moved off at the first bend and got a lot of trouble. Rex returned with a few sore points and will likely be given the rest of the year off. Barnish Booth ran a very good race to finish 3rd. Mickey pinged the lids but was beaten by better dogs on the night.
Forest Mollie was given a trial this evening at Swindon as a blowout ready for the Oaks beginning at Wimbledon next week. Mollie delighted us with her 28.48 effort in beating Crusty Crab by 6 lengths.
Bookies Girls continued her good form when leading home kennel mate, Swords Brett in the A2. Brooke won in a good 28.82. Brett also impressed with his run as he was on the poor ground on the inside and should go close next time out.

Monday, 5 November 2012

Week Ending 4th November
Monday 29th
No luck today from our 8 runners. Moody Mare and Off The Radar both ran well in defeat though.
Tuesday 30th
Express Fantasy (29.31), Vevas Tiger (29.45), Scaffs Misty (29.87), Swords Messi (28.98) and Beatrice Maud (29.68) all went well in their 4 bend workouts.
Hoots Mon returned from having his tonsils out with a decent 16.40 trial win. He beat Ballyhill Power (16.50) and Lady Jaro (16.66).
Gemstone Meg pleased us with her 16.61 solo after returning from lameness. Meg has been off the track for a long time now but has lots of potential and she should make a nice bitch with some consistent running.
Novices, Zamboni Zazzle (17.46) and Zamboni Zohan (19.65) completed the trial day.
Wednesday 31st
Just the 4 runners this evening but no luck. Der Lone Razor ran well again in defeat.
Thursday 1st
Taranis Rex qualified for the semi finals of the Laurels at Belle Vue tonight when finishing 3rd in his heat. Rex got crowded early on but showed good pace down the back before tiring slightly on the run home. It was a slow and boggy track which wouldn't have suited so he's run well. We've quite a nice draw in the semi's and it would be brilliant to make the final of such a prestigious competition.
Friday 2nd
The Bags Track Championship returned today with our home leg against Poole and Oxford and it proved a very good day for the Swindon team and also the kennel.
We managed 2 winners and a short head 2nd from our 3 runners.
Mercurial Lady was beaten by the narrowest of margins on the line in the Standard race. She showed good early but in all honesty she hit the front too early and just dodged about. She used to be able to tell where the line was and never used to get beat in a photo but she's lost her touch though and has been beaten in 4 photo finishes on the trot! She'll love the change of scenery in the other 2 legs if selected though.
Hoots Mon soon got back in to the winning groove as he flew the lids in the sprint division and led all the way to win by 3 3/4 lengths in a good 16.20. This completed a hat trick of wins for Hoots and he'll hopefully head to Oxford next.
Sligo Mick, who's been in great form of late, flew the lids and led all the way to win the Dogs division by 3 lengths in 28.73. Mick seems much more consistent of late and has put some nice runs together. I'm not sure how he'd handle the tighter circuits of Poole and Oxford but we'll give him a trial and see how he goes.
Ring The Alarm made it 6 wins from her 20 career starts as she led off the 2nd bend to win her A2 by 2 3/4 lengths in a personal best 28.88.
At the evening meeting we had 2 winners from our 5 runners. Chilli Spring led at the 1st to win her A5 by 3/4 of a length in 29.47. Spring has now won 5 of her 15 races and is a lovely genuine sort. She's for sale at reasonable money too and would give someone an awful lot of fun. If anyone is interested please give me a ring on 07969 021565 and I'll put any offers forward to her owner.
Bookies Girl picked up kennel mate Liscrea Premier on the run in to win her A2 by 1 length in 29.17.
Saturday 3rd
Over to Wimbledon first where we had 5 dogs competing in the 1st round of the St Leger.
Thing's started well for us as Portavoe Lass ran a terrific race to qualify in 3rd. Esme has been off the track for 3 months while recovering from a cracked hock so this was a great effort to qualify tonight and she'll improve nicely for the run.
Crinkill Jewel was desperately unlucky in her heat as she was totally wiped out of the race while going in to the 2nd bend in a good position.
Five Alley Pub never got a blow in as he was soundly beaten by Droopys Robles in the fastest time of the night.
Kennel mates, Ding Hero and Pony Bride were drawn in the same heat and Ding delighted us with his run as he led pretty much all the way. We weren't sure if Ding would stay this trip but he seemed to see it out well enough and came out of the race well. Pony Bride was outpaced in the early stages but finished strongly, unfortunately the line came too soon for her and she was eliminated in 5th place. She'll head back to Coventry next week for the heats of their marathon competition.
We had a good night at Swindon with 3 winners from our 9 runners.
Vevas Tiger led all the way in her first run back from seasonal rest to win in 29.42.
Stanton Apollo broke very well and led all the way in his A2 to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 28.75. He's settled in well at Swindon and looks like making a nice dog.
Droopys Harper just got the better of Rainham Chris on the line to lead home a kennel 1-2-3 in the A1. Chris showed very good early and flew down the back to go clear but Forest Ted and Droopys Harper looked to be closing off the last and it was Harper who flew home and got there on the nod. Harper really deserved this win after getting plenty of crowding in recent races, missing his Romford 575m maiden race due to the traffic and coming up against Slippery Patch at Oxford. He'll head to Oxford next for a trial and hopefully he'll make the inter track team.

Monday, 29 October 2012

Week Ending 28th October
Monday 22nd
2 winners and a few 2nds from our 9 runners today.
Irdu Brannagh got her first race win as she won her A8 by 1 1/2 lengths in 30.23. Lady Mission ran a blinder as she led at the 2nd bend and went on to win her A3 by 3 lengths in a fastest of the day 28.74. Liscrea Premier ran 2nd in the A2 Owners Bonus Series final, Lizzys Bar, Mercurial Lady and Gortkelly Hudini all ran well in defeat.
Tuesday 23rd
Trials were cancelled at late notice this morning so the gallop was well used today. Portavoe Lass was impressive as she continues her come back from injury.
Wednesday 24th
A couple of winners from our 9 runners this evening.
Lady Maud returned to winning ways as she flew the lids and led all the way in her A3 to win by 4 1/2 lengths in 29.00.
Riverdale Spiros got his first win since returning from injury as he ran a brilliant first bend to muscle his way to the front and got the better of kennel mate Scobys Flash on the run to the line. Ricky won by 1 length in 29.00.
Thursday 25th
A Busy day at the kennels with around 40 dogs being checked over by our physio and trips to Monmore and Belle Vue in the evening.
Good and bad news from the physio today. Hey Diego and Lord Sugar face a spell on the sidelines with lameness but Bellmore Woody and Kelseys Prince both got the go ahead to return to full training.
Ding Hero was totally out of luck in his 630m Sky final as he took a crashing fall on the first bend. Ding broke well and looked like turning handy but within a split second he was crashing to the ground. Luckily he returned none the worse and will head to Wimbledon for the St Leger next week. We're not sure if he'll stick the tough 6 bends at the Don but it's worth a shot and he deserves to take his chance.
Taranis Rex trialled at Belle Vue in preparation for the upcoming Laurels and delighted us with his effort. Rex pinged the lids and ran the track very well as he beat the useful Boher Cheiftain by 1 length in 27.83.
Friday 26th
4 winners from our 13 runners at Swindon. Effernogue Load beat kennel mate Glendine Girl by 2 lengths in 29.36. Bookies Girls beat kennel mate Sparkem out by 2 3/4 lengths in 28.79. Motor Home got her first win since returning from her hock injury as she led all the way to win her A3 by 3 3/4 lengths in 29.05. Useful youngster, Rainham Chris, was quite impressive as he won a decent little A2 in good style. Chris broke well and showed a lovely turn of early and went on to win by 3 1/4 lengths in a fastest of the night 28.65. There's plenty left in this lad yet and he'll make a very nice dog next year.
Crinkill Jewel, Portavoe Lass and Five Alley Pub all trialled at Wimbledon tonight in preparation for the St Leger and went well. There was nothing between all three of them at the line, Crink's just edged the trial in 29.13.
Saturday 27th
Another busy day with meeting's at Coventry, Oxford and Swindon.
Firstly to Coventry where we had 5 runners at their morning meeting. Pony Bride was stepped up in trip to the 894m marathon and stayed it well as she won by nearly 2 lengths. It looks like Pony will be well suited to this type of trip in the future but she'll drop back down to 6 bends next for a crack at the St Leger. She'll take the quick runs of the comp in her stride if she can make it through a round or two. Hiding Escort ran a superb race to collar long time leader, Razldazl Houdini on the run in to win the top division of the standard open in 29.50. The exciting Forest Mollie looked a likely winner coming in to the last bend before just clipping the dog in front and hitting the rail. She's OK though and will head back to Cov next week before concentrating on Wimbledon in readiness for the Oaks. I think Mollie is a good a dog as I've ever trained. Gemstone Jack got disqualified in his 6 bend open but we won't be giving up on him just yet. Jack is only young and has huge potential if he stays focused on the job. He'll be given a break before being re-schooled.
On to Swindon where we had 2 winners form our 6 runners. Forest Ted led home kennel mate Sligo Mick in the A1. Ted won by 3/4 of a length in 28.80. Lady Maud made it two wins in a week as she beat kennel mate Winetavern Tadgh by 1/2 a length in 28.91.
Barnish Booth was the star of the show tonight though as he won the Oxford Gold Cup by nearly 3 lengths in 26.90. Mickey broke well from trap 6 and turned handy going in to the back straight where he soon took up the running. Kilmalady Biffo and Glenbane Air finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the final after both slightly missing the kick.
Slippery Patch appreciated the drop in trip to 595m and he pinged the lids and led all the way in his open to win in the 2nd fastest time of the year. Patch has the Romford Essex Vase as his big target.
The Oxford Gold Cup victory capped off a great few weeks for us and the open race tally now stands at 77.

Monday, 22 October 2012

Week Ending 21st October
Monday 15th
Just the 5 runners at today's Swindon meeting. Keeperhill Hawk made it two wins on the trot as he pinged the lids and led all the way to win his A3 by 1 1/2 lengths in 29.12. Kennel mate, Lady Maud ran well to finish as runner up.
Tuesday 16th
A very good trial session with all 11 dogs pleasing us with their efforts.
Gemstone Annie beat Penskey Rain by 1 1/2 lengths in a fastest of the session 28.74. Annie has been in terrific form of late and ran well through the Produce and this blowout would of done her good. This was also a good effort from Pensk who has struggled for runs for the last couple of weeks with opens failing to fill at Swindon, he'll be given a few graded races to keep him ticking over.
Newcomers, Swords Brett (29.13), Swords Messi (29.05) and Jolly Bullseye (28.83) all went very well in their first four bend trials and should improve nicely. The Swords brothers both stayed the trip very well and could be useful over a 600m trip. Bullseye showed a nice turn of foot to go around 5 lengths clear in his trial before visible tiring coming home, I'd expect a nice chunk of improvement next week form this lad as that was his first four bend workout for a couple of months.
Portavoe Lass made her come back from her cracked hock today and delighted us with her 29.25 effort. Esme looked good and ran the bends well and thankfully returned safe and sound. It'll be a rush but we hope to have her back in time for the St Leger at Wimbledon.
Vevas Tiger (16.65) and Express Fantasy (16.73) both returned from seasonal rest and went well. Scaffs Misty (16.60) and Beatrice Maud (17.17) both went nicely in their qualifying trials and Ballyhill Power (16.25) was very impressive when having her first look at Swindon.
Wednesday 17th
A good night for the kennel with 3 winners from our 8 runners.
Sparkem Out (29.03) and Liscrea Premier (28.89) both made it safely through to the Owners Bonus Series A2 final as they both won their heats.
Chilli Spring got her first win since returning from seasonal rest as she led all the way in her A6 to score in 29.51.
Today we tried out our new 3 dog walking machine and were a bit surprised as to how quickly the dogs got the hang of it and how much they seemed to enjoy it! I've never been a great fan of walking machines, preferring to get the dogs out on a 'proper walk' but this should prove invaluable with the bad weather coming up and we've a few dogs in particular that will benefit from the extra work as they return from injury.
Thursday 18th
Off to Monmore this evening for the heats of the TV Trophy and a 630m comp. Crinkill Jewel ran well in the toughest heat of the TV Trophy but failed to qualify as she finished in 4th. It looked likely we would qualify down the back straight for the 2nd time but we had to take the long route round the last couple of bends which let a couple of strong types up our inside. We could of done with a week's rest really after winning the Kent St Leger on Saturday but she deserved to take her chance.
Ding Hero qualified for next week's 630m final live on Sky Sports as he finished a good 2nd to Airforce Roger. Ding broke well and looked like we might lead round the bend but just got our legs taken away from behind but always looked like qualifying afterwards. Unfortunately we've been given an awful draw in 5 for the final with a lot of pace inside that we'll need to clear if we're to have a chance.
Friday 19th
Three winners from today's Swindon meetings. Active Lark flew the lids and led all the way to win another A2 by 1 3/4 lengths in 28.81. Glendine Girl also pinged out and led all the way in her A4 to win by 1/2 a length in 29.41. Forest Mollie was hugely impressive as she won a good quality A1 in a fast 28.40. Mollie showed massive pace to take 4 or 5 lengths out of some decent dogs before tiring slightly coming home. This was only her 5th ever race and her 3rd UK start and she's a terrific prospect. The Oaks at Wimbledon is firmly on the agenda.
After an horrendous 5 hour journey to Romford in the evening we were left with only 1 runner. Pony Bride finished 2nd in her maiden marathon and ran well.
Saturday 20th
With Swindon cancelled due to speedway, we all headed to Oxford where we had 7 runners.
Slippery Patch finished runner-up in the Cesarewitch final. Patch pinged the lids and went around 4-5 lengths clear but tied up again coming home and was beaten half a length. He's run well though and gave us everything he had. He's likely to head back to Oxford next week but will be dropped down in trip to the 595m.
Five Alley Pub finally got a clear run and showed what he can do when things go right for him as he pinged out and led all the way to win by nearly 7 lengths in a fast 39.75. Wolfie will go off to Wimbledon for a trial, along with Portavoe Lass and Crinkill Jewel, ready for a crack at the St Leger.
Hiding Escort ran very well in his 595m open but went down by half a length after a sluggish start.
On to the heats of the Gold Cup where we had 4 entries. The evergreen Kilmalady Biffo flew out and led all the way to win his heat in a fast 26.69. Kennel mate, Barnish Booth, ran a very good race to finish 2nd to Biffo and safely make it through to next week's final. Both will be joined in the final by Glenbane Air who ran well to finish 2nd to the Oxfordshire Trophy winner, Warning Sign. Inishmore Impact was out of luck in his heat after being crowded at the 1st and 3rd bends but it's fantastic to have 3 runners in the final next week and we go there full of hope that we can get another competition winner.
Sunday 21st
A trip to Coventry tonight with 2 runners and 2 trial dogs.
Rainham Chris beat kennel mate Stanton Apollo by 4 1/4 lengths in 29.79. Both didn't get a run at Swindon during the week so we thought it was a good opportunity to give them some further experience and they went well enough.
Gemstone Jack was stepped up to 6 bends for the first time and ran well. Jack showed good pace to lead off the 2nd bend but was caught close home and went down by a neck. He'll improve for the run and won't be long in winning.
Gemstone Annie was harshly treated to be placed in the top division of the 485m against track champion, Holdem Spy. Annie finished 5th but ran quite well. She pinged the lids and looked like turning handy but just clipped the rails at the bend and lost ground.

Monday, 15 October 2012

Week Ending 14th October
Monday 8th
Another busy day for us with a trial session at Oxford, a BAGS meeting at Swindon and the Produce Stakes final at Nottingham.
Kilmalady Biffo took his chance in the re run of the void race from Saturday night and qualified for the final when finishing 2nd. Biffo had every chance but we were pleased to get him through after just one rest day from Saturday.
3 winners from our 10 runners at Swindon today. Irdu Gormlaith won her A8 by 2 3/4 lengths in 29.91. Fishersmans Leah continued her excellent form with another A2 win. She won today by 1 1/4 lengths in 28.99. Keeperhill Hawk pinged the lids and led all the way in his A4 to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 29.28.
On to Nottingham this evening where Gemstone Jack was contesting the final of the £15,000 Produce Stakes. Jack had done fantastically well to make the decider but went off a big price at 16/1. Although we finished 5th, we were only beaten around 3 lengths by a very good winner in Romeo Recruit. Jack took a touch at the first and was slightly held up going into the third bend when making his challenge but he ran on well and did us proud. Jack will now be stepped up in trip and we're really looking forward to seeing him over 6 bends. He could make a very useful stayer and will be a lovely dog next year.
Tuesday 9th
A fairly quiet trial session with just 6 dogs going through their paces. Motor Home (29.50) and Moody Mare (29.42) both returned to the graded strength while Boynepark Joe (29.27) was given a blow out after not being used for 3 weeks by Swindon. This lad is desperate for some racing but always seems to get left on the sidelines.
We gave sprint trials to 3 very nice new recruits and all of them delighted us with their efforts. Brothers, Swords Messi (16.22) and Swords Brett (16.24) both ran the track nicely in their solo workouts. Jolly Bullseye arrived in the kennels a couple of months ago and was given plenty of time to settle in before we did too much with him. He'd been galloping at home and had looked a bit special to say the least, so it was no surprise when he recorded a flying 16.06 in his first look at Swindon. Bullseye has some very decent Irish form and will probably be given a four bend trial next week.
Wednesday 10th
Just the one winner from our 6 runners tonight. Active Lark made it 3 wins from her last 7 races as she came from off the pace to win her A2 by 1 length in 29.15.
A busy day on the gallop with 24 dogs being given a blowout including a few bitches that are due back from season in the next week or two.
Friday 12th
4 winners from today's Swindon meeting's.
Winetavern Tadgh got a gutsy win in his a2 as he got up on the line to win in 29.15.
Witcombe Lady flew the lids (2.36 sectional) and led all the way to win her A5 by 3 3/4 lengths in 29.33. Ring The Alarm got her first win since returning from season as she led all the way in her A3 to win by 1/2 a length in 29.03. Taranis Rex won a very decent A1 contest by a neck in a fastest of the night 28.48. Rex didn't break too well again but showed good early and battled really well to hold on at the line. He's likely to head to Belle Vue for a trial next.
Saturday 13th
We'll start at Monmore where we had Ding Hero and Pony Bride running. Ding was stepped up in trip to the 630m and handled himself well and was in contention until getting crowded on the 5th bend. He'll return next week for a 2 round competition. Pony Bride was also stepped up in trip to the 835m and ran well to finish 2nd. It was a tough race and she suffered crowding on the opening turn so this wasn't a bad effort at all. She'll probably be kept to the marathon trip now.
On to Swindon where we got 1 winner from our 7 runners but we did have a couple beaten in photo finishes. Off The Radar led all the way to beat kennel mate Riverdale Spiros by 2 1/4 lengths in 28.87. Radar has done really well since joining the kennel and hopefully he can stay sound for some consistent racing now. Gemstone Billy and Stanton Apollo both ran very well in defeat and shouldn't be long in winning again. Forest Mollie went off odds-on for her 509m maiden open but her race was over very quickly as the 1 dog moved out and the 3 dog moved in and put us out of the race early on.
We had a fantastic night over at Oxford with 3 winners, Inishmore Impact, Barnish Booth and Slippery Patch all did the business. Inishmore Impact was having his first look at the track but he made his task easier with a fast break and he led all the way to win in a good 27.16. Barnish Booth again proved his liking for the Cowley track as he pinged the lids and won a good quality race in 27.06. Slippery Patch won his heat of the Cesarewitch as he pinged the lids and got himself into a long lead before tiring coming home but he just held on to win in the fastest time of the night. Patch will improve for the run and will get stronger so we're hopeful of going well in the final next week. Hiding Escort and Five Alley Pub both ran their hearts out for us in their heats but were a tad unlucky and both finished 3rd.
Glenbane Air and Kilmalady Biffo were both in the final of the Oxfordshire Trophy but both got the start all wrong and our race was over very quickly. They will both head back next week for the Gold Cup.
We've saved the best till last though as Crinkill Jewel won the Kent St Leger final this evening at Crayford. Crink's had won her semi final last week and went in to the final as third favourite. She broke OK but took a good nudge on the bend and entered the back straight for the first time in 4th place but she stayed in contention and picked the front runners off and led on the run in to win by just over a length. It's our first category 2 success and a big achievement to get the first good competition win under our belts. Crink's will head to Monmore next week for the TV Trophy heats.

Thursday, 11 October 2012

Week Ending 7th October
Monday 1st
Tonight was the semi finals of the Nottingham produce stakes and we had one in each heat.
Gemstone Jack ran a huge race to qualify for the final from an impossible position after he was badly crowded around the first turn. Jack showed some real pace coming home and was only beaten a couple of lengths in the end. He could be anything when stepped up to 6 bends.
Gemstone Annie was out of luck in her semi as she was crowded on the opening bends and left in a hopeless position. Annie has done terrifically well to reach this stage though and has improved massively over the last couple of months.
We are all really looking forward to the final and it's fantastic to make both finals of the Produce this year.
Gortkelly Hudini gave us our only winner of the day at Swindon as he finished strongly to win his A4 by 3/4 of a length in 29.45.
Tuesday 2nd
A very good trial session for the kennel with a couple of the new dogs going well and some ex lame dogs returning well.
Mercurial Lady (29.07), beat kennel mates, Riverdale Spiros (29.10) and Malbay Kesha (29.41).
Stanton Apollo won his trial well in 29.14 and Motor Home recorded 29.85 in her first 4 bend trial back from lameness.
Recent arrival, Droopys Danneel, recorded a fastest of the session 28.72 in her first look at Blunsdon. She would have needed this run a bit so it was a good effort and looks a lovely stayer in the making.
Rainham Chris impressed with his 28.85 trial win. Chris is a big, backward type of dog who will need plenty of time to mature but he flew the lids today and looks to have a bright future.
Moody Mare completed our trial day as she returned from a rest with a good 16.59 sprint.
Wednesday 3rd
No luck from our runners this evening at Swindon but we did have some good news from our vets appointment this morning. Portavoe Lass was given the all clear to return to training as her x-ray showed her cracked hock has healed very well. Hoots Mon had his tonsils removed and should make a recovery in time for the BAGS Championship, he'd be a good candidate for all 3 venues if selected. Coolykereen Lee was castrated and should be ready for his forever home soon.
Friday 5th
A quiet day with just 10 runners at Swindon but we returned with a healthy 4 winners.
Bookies Girls led on the run in to win her A2 in 29.14. Liscrea Premier led from the 2nd bend to win her A2 by a short head in 29.15. Sparkem Out ran a blinder to win her A3 by 5 1/2 lengths in 28.91 and Stanton Apollo made a winning debut for the kennel as he showed good track craft and determination to win his A3 by a neck in 29.09.
Saturday 6th
A busy night for us with runners at Swindon, Oxford and Crayford.
Firstly to Crayford where Crinkill Jewel won her semi-final of the Kent St Leger. Crink's ran a cracking race to pick the leaders up near the line in the fastest time of the night. She's got a lovely draw in trap 6 for the £2500 decider and should go close.
On to Oxford where we had Glenbane Air and Kilmalady Biffo in the Oxfordshire Trophy. Glenbane Air flew the lids and led all the way in his heat to win by 3 3/4 lengths in 27.06. Biffo was unfortunate in his heat in that the hare had to be stopped in the interest of safety as he was 2 clear off the last bend. In a pre race trial, Slippery Patch beat kennel mate Five Alley Pub by 2 1/2 lengths in 39.77. Both will be aimed at the Cesarewitch which starts next week.
We had a couple of winners at Swindon as well. Ding Hero was impressive in the 509m open as he flew the lids and led all the way in a fast 29.60.
Forest Mollie made a hugely impressive UK debut as she led home a 1-2-3 for the kennel in the A1. Mollie made a hash of the start but showed huge pace to catch long time leader Forest Ted on the run in to win by 1/2 a length in 28.64. Mollie will be kept ticking over in minor opens to gain experience for the time being but the Oaks at Wimbledon will be firmly on the agenda.
Taranis Rex ran a good race after missing the kick as he was beaten on the line by the useful Hernandez.
Sunday 7th
A trip to Coventry this evening proved pretty unsuccessful. Mullingar Mer took a nasty fall in her sprint open and returned very sore in the neck, she'll be given a short break now. Pony Bride left herself too much to do in her stayers open but ran a good enough race, she'll be stepped up in trip now to see if she stays. Inishmore Impact ran a blinder to finish 2nd after flashing from the boxes but was beaten by a better dog on the night. Barnish Booth got crowded early on in his race but ran well enough on the quiet.

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

Week Ending 30th September
Monday 24th
Just the one winner at today's BAGS meeting. Off The Radar got his first win for the kennel as he led all the way to win his A2 in a good 28.92. Radar is a lovely dog who's had his fair share of niggling injuries but hopefully he'll get some consistent racing now.
On to Nottingham this evening for the first round of the Produce Stakes. We had 3 in the competition and managed to get two through to the next round.
Gemstone Annie won her heat in good style after running a terrific first bend. Gemstone Jack also qualified as he finished a strong running 3rd. Hey Diego got it all wrong at the boxes and got plenty of trouble in running as he finished a disappointing 5th.
Tuesday 25th
A very good trial session for us this morning at Swindon. Slippery Patch recorded a very pleasing 28.25 in a solo and this blowout would have done him the world of good.
Ring The Alarm clocked 29.27 in her first four bend trial since returning from seasonal rest.
Recent arrivals Rainham Chris (29.43) and Stanton Apollo (29.63) both went well enough in their first four bend trials for us.
Riverdale Spiros (16.38), Mercurial Lady (16.39), Malbay Kesha (16.34) and Motor Home (16.63) all went very well in their sprint trials.
Butchers Bounty left the kennel today to continue his racing with Jim Little. Butch has been a wonderful dog for us but we needed to free some space for some new dogs coming in.
Wednesday 26th
3 winners this evening at Swindon from our 5 runners. Fishersmans Leah just got up on the line to win her A2 by a head in 28.99. Glendine Girl quickly hit the front and led all the way to win her A4 in 29.39. Liscrea Premier led around the third bend to win her A2 well in 29.02.
16 dogs were put through their paces on the gallop with a couple of new dogs we've got ready to come through looking very impressive.
Kennel legend, Stanton Jerry, left us today as he went to his forever home. Jerry has been a wonderful dog to train and gave us some great times. I'll always remember the night at Hall Green when he won his maiden 480m open race by nearly 9 lengths. I only decided to put Jerry up there that night as an extra runner to keep Superstar Lily company,  her race didn't fill and we had to make the journey with just Jerry in the end but he ran his trademark race as he put the shoulder in at the first and went onto win easily. We all stopped for pizza on the way home and I'm sure Jerry felt like a hero! He had a great night and won well but we decided to leave his open race career at that and he retired with it 100% intact. Jezza has a lovely home now and hopefully we'll all get to see him again on a Sunday.
Thursday 27th
A disappointing night at Henlow as Taranis Rex failed to make it through the first round of their Derby. In all honesty he ran pretty flat but the main thing is he's safe and sound and we'll look for a minor open next time out for him. Our race was won by former kennel dog, Yeatsie Boy, who ran a terrific race to lead all the way. Fingers crossed Yeatsie can go all the way, he's a lovely dog.
Friday 28th
A busy day for the kennel with 3 meeting's to attend.
First we'll go to Nottingham where both Gemstone Jack and Gemstone Annie qualified for the semi finals of the Produce Stakes in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Jack seems to be improving every time he goes round there and ran a good race in defeat again tonight.
Just a couple of winners at Swindon. Winetavern Tadgh got a much deserved win in his A2 as he beat Butchers Bounty in a good 28.87. Hey Rodrigo won his first race back since lameness as he led all the way in his A6. This lad suffers badly from cramping but seems to be going the right way now.
Saturday 29th
2 winners from our 7 runners this evening at Swindon. Ding Hero reversed last week's form with Hiding Escort in the 509m open as he cracked out and led all the way. Henry ran a blinder in behind from a bad draw and is in great form at present.
Penskey Rain and Gemstone Billy ran very well in the 685m open to finish 2nd and 3rd. The 685m on a fast track is a bit sharp for Penskey nowadays but he's still running with great credit at over four years old. Gemstone Billy has taken the step up to open class very well and gives the impression that the further he goes the better he'll get.
Forest Ted won the A1 as he pinged the lids and led all the way to record 28.75. Droopys Harper ran another good race in behind to finish 3rd.
Ring The Alarm ran well in her first race back since season to finish 3rd.
Crinkill Jewel contested the first round of the Kent St Leger at Crayford this evening and safely made it through to the semi finals as she finished 2nd. Crink's had every chance and was beating by a better dog on the night but ran well and should improve further for another look at the track.
Sunday 30th
A great way to end the month with 3 winners from 6 runners at Coventry tonight.
Glenbane Air, who has been in terrific form, got the night off to a flyer as he won division 1 of the sprint. Barney didn't ping this week but ran a very brave 1st bend to push his way through on the rail and went on to win in a photo.
Mullingar Mer quickly made it two winners as she won division 2 of the sprint. Titch as she is known is a real pocket rocket and she broke fairly well tonight and showed great pace going in to the corner to take up the lead. She ran the track very well and really powered off the last bend to win going away in a good 15.91.
Pony Bride was an unlucky loser as she flopped from the boxes and gave herself an awful lot to do. She started to motor going in to the 5th bend but had a wall of dogs in front of her and was forced to check. She rallied again and was only beaten a couple of lengths in the end. She'll be worth sticking with next week now she's had a look round.
Barnish Booth and Inishmore Impact both missed the breaks and got their fair share of trouble as they finished down the field in their respective 485m races.
Slippery Patch completed the night's work though as he won division 3 of the standard. Patch trapped OK but paced up nicely to turn 2nd entering the back straight. He looked for a gap on the rail that wasn't there and got held up in running a little bit but stayed on well enough to win on the line. It was nice to get a first win under his belt and he'll improve greatly for the race.
This completed a brilliant month for us as we finished with 44 winners, 18 of these were in opens.

In other news....
The next BAGS intertrack will soon be upon us. We had great success in the last one and a lot of fun but we're slightly disappointed to only be in a group of 3 with Oxford and Poole this year. Neither track will really suit our type of dog so most of the new dogs we could have rushed through for the the start of the competition will go on to other things now but we should still have a few to put forward if all is well nearer the time. A few possibles could be; Hoots Mon, Boynepark Joe, Sligo Mick, Black Beach, Droopys Harper, Riverdale Spiros, Express Fantasy and Mercurial Lady to name a few.
A few of our nice new dogs will be ready to trial in the next couple of weeks. We've been in no rush with one or two of them but they've been kept ticking over on the gallop and one in particular really does look a bit special.
Portavoe Lass heads to the vets next week for another x-ray on her hock. It's expected that we should get the all clear for her to return to training and the St Leger at Wimbledon would be a possibility if she's ready in time.

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Week Ending 9th September
Monday 3rd
A good start to the week with 2 winners from our 8 runners.
Scobys Flash won her A2 by 1 3/4 lengths in 29.22. She ran a game race as she led around the third bend.
The much improved Irdu Gormlaith got an A7 win under her belt as she led all the way to win by 3/4 of a length in 30.08.
11 hounds were put through their paces on the gallop this morning with Inismore Impact and Pony Bride going particularly well. Mercurial Lady who's been off around 3 months since going lame in an open race at Hove, had her first gallop back and went very well. The shoulder has held up nicely and she should be ready for a trial in a couple of weeks.
Tuesday 4th
We had 6 for trials today. Unfortunately Forest Mollie had to stay at home with a touch of the cough. Irdu Brannagh rejoined the graded strength with her 30.87 effort.
Chilli Spring (16.95), Ring The Alarm (16.56), Gemstone Meg (16.72), Coolykereen Lee (17.06) and Hey Rodrigo (16.75) all moved well enough in their sprint trials.
Wednesday 5th
Another good night with a hat trick of winners.
Butchers Bounty continued his good form as he led off the last bend to win his A2 by a head in 29.77.
Lady Mission made it 2 wins from 2 since returning from injury as she led around the first bend to win her A3 nicely in 29.58.
Active Lark pinged the lids to beat kennel mate Off The Radar by 3 3/4 lengths in 29.07. Radar delighted us with his effort as this was his first run for a long time.
Thursday 6th
What a night we had down at Hove this evening! We managed 3 winners from our 4 runners which pushed us over the target of 50 open race wins for the year. It was also the first time we've ever managed a hat trick of winners at Hove, it's not an easy place to go and get winners that's for sure.
Pony Bride got us our 50th open winner of the year with an impressive performance in the 695m maiden. Pony is quite pace less for the first couple of bends but really winds it up from halfway and looks to stay all day. She won by a couple of lengths in a good 41.86. She's only just coming to hand and will be a better bitch with a few runs under her belt but she might well make in to a nice TV Trophy bitch.
Mullingar Mer, who got no luck last week on her first visit to Hove, showed a lovely turn of early to lead at the bend in her maiden sprint open. She went on to win in good style in 16.49. Titch as she is known, could be anything, although I think she'll be better suited to a short four bend trip eventually, she'll be kept to sprinting for another couple of runs.
Five Alley Pub wasn't able to dictate matters in his 695m open but ran well enough to finish 3rd. He'll probably head to Coventry next week before being aimed at the Cesarewitch at Oxford in October.
Barnish Booth got his first win at the seaside as he flew the lids and led all the way in his 515m open. Mickey recorded a good 4.08 sectional and stopped the clock in a fastest of the night 29.99. The 515 is a touch to far for him in all honesty but he'll take his chance in the Olympic that starts next week.
Friday 7th
A busy day for the kennel with 2 meetings at Swindon and a trip to Romford.
We'll start at Romford where Ding Hero and Hiding Escort were contesting the semi finals of the Champion Stakes. Both were drawn in the same heat and unfortunately finished 5th and 6th. Ding needed to lead to stand a chance of getting through but missed the kick and got crowded throughout. He'll head back there next week for a one off open. Hiding Escort looked in a good position to qualify but ran flat and faded out. He returned with the cough so will face a couple of weeks on the easy list.
We did manage a couple of winners at Swindon though. Sparkem Out led on the line to win her A2 by a head in 29.30 while Scobys Flash made it 2 wins in a week as she led all the way to win another A2 in 29.12. Der Lone Razor qualified from his heat in the A3 Owners Bonus Series when finishing runner up. The final is next Wednesday so fingers crossed he'll make it win number 4 for the kennel in these Bonus races.
Saturday 8th
Taranis Rex was the star of the show for us this evening as he won the 480m in good style. Rex broke well and showed terrific early and never looked like being beaten. He won in a good 28.74. He'd been off for a year following a very serious Achilles tendon injury so to win in only his third comeback race was a terrific achievement. Inismore Impact ran another good race to finish 3rd behind Rex and is improving rapidly. He'll be given a chance in the upcoming 509m maiden.
We were represented by 3 runners in the A1 tonight and managed to come away with the 1-2. It was a very messy race with both Forest Ted and Black Beach suffering bad crowding but it didn't matter to Hoots Mon as he flew the lids and left all the trouble behind him. He won by over 6 lengths in a good 28.85.
Gemstone Annie moved very well in her preparation trial for the Nottingham Produce Stakes as she recorded 30.47.
Sunday 9th
A trip to Coventry this evening with 3 runners in 2 races. Glenbane Air confirmed the Swindon sprint form over kennel mate Kilmalady Biffo as they again finished 1st and 2nd. Barney pinged the lids but it looked likely Biffo would lead around the bend but Barney just gave him a nudge and that was enough to see him home.
Penskey Rain was totally out of luck in the marathon race as he was crowded on the run to the bend and badly crowded at the first. He could never get competitive after this.

Sunday, 2 September 2012

Week Ending 2nd September
Monday 27th
Just the one winner to begin the week with. I Certainly May led all the way in her A3 to record 29.76.
Tuesday 28th
Lady Mission (29.68), Off The Radar (29.34), Bookies Girls (29.42) and Sparkem Out (29.49) all returned to the graded strength following their lay offs. Forest Mollie impressed in her solo sprint trial as she posted 16.35. Mollie has been on the easy list after having her tonsils out so this was a very good effort.
Wednesday 29th
A good night for the kennel with 3 winners from our 8 runners.
Lizzys Bar soon led in his A3 and went on to win very nicely by 5 lengths in a personal best 29.30.
Inismore Impact finally gave us the type of run we've been expecting from him as he flew the lids and won a good quality A2 by 5 1/2 lengths in 28.89. Echo is a lovely dog who starts and stays and should develop into a nice open class dog in the coming months.
Lord Sugar completed the night's work as he led on the run in to win by 1/2 a length in 29.35.
Witcombe Lady and Gortkelly Hudini both ran well in defeat.
Thursday 30th
A trip to the seaside this evening as we took 7 to Hove.
Five Alley Pub and Crinkill Jewel were out of luck in the Charlie Miller stayers final as they finished 4th and 5th.
Mullingar Mer was very unlucky in the maiden sprint open and I think she would have won with a clear run.
Boynepark Joe, Barnish Booth and Pony Bride all ran well in their races but were beaten by better dogs on the night.
Kilmalady Biffo made sure we didn't go home empty handed though as he flew the lids and won a good little sprint race by 3 1/2 lengths in 16.23.
Friday 31st
Another good day for us with winners at Swindon and Romford.
Gemstone Annie continued her excellent recent form as she won a good quality A2 by 3 1/2 lengths in a personal best 29.03. Annie has now won 4 of her last 6 races and is a lovely stayer in the making.
Hoots Mon beat kennel mate Droopys Harper by 3 1/2 lengths in an Intertrack race against Poole. It's been difficult getting runs for Harper of late and he would of needed this blowout but it was nice to see Hoots back to winning ways.
Lady Mission won at the first time of asking since returning from a stress fracture of the hock. Mission always led to win her A3 by 5 lengths in 29.49.
On to Romford where we had 3 runners in the first round of the Champion Stakes. Ding Hero looked back to somewhere near his best as he pinged the lids and led all the way. Ding won by 3 1/4 lengths in 35.72.
Slippery Patch was unlucky in his heat as he looked set to go round in 2nd place before being clipped from behind and losing ground. Patch quickly recovered to get back in to the running but tired coming home and was eliminated. Patch will improve in bundles when we can get some consistent racing in to him.
Hiding Escort ran well to qualify in third place from his heat. He was well beaten by the top class Westmead Maldini but is safely through to the next round.
Saturday 1st September
This was as close to the perfect night as we'll ever get I think! We had 8 runners in 5 races and managed to win all 5, we even got in a couple of forecasts for good measure.
The night got off to a great start as Glenbane Air beat kennel mate Kilmalady Biffo by a neck in the sprint open race. Barney flew the lids and led all the way but was made to work very hard by Biffo who would have won the race if he'd have broken just a little better.
Boozed Aroma led all the way in her A2 as she just held on from kennel mate Liscrea Premier by a head in 29.42.
Taranis Rex was made even money favourite for the 480m open race but it was kennel mate Hey Diego who landed the spoils in great style. Gelert pinged the lids and led all the way to win very impressively by 7 1/2 lengths in a good 28.71. Rex missed the start and took a nasty whack on the bend but flew down the back before tiring coming home. This run would have done him the world of good and I'm sure he'll be back to winning ways soon enough.
Penskey Rain made it a clean sweep of the opens for us this evening as he led on the run in to win the 685m contest by 1/2 length in 41.99.
Bookies Girls completed a great night as she pinged the lids to lead all the way in her A2 to win by 2 lengths in 29.33. This was Brooke's first run back from seasonal rest and she should be better for that run.

In Other News...
Gemstone Jack and Hey Diego both have the Nottingham Produce Stakes coming up and will head there for a trial a week on Monday.
Portavoe Lass is making very good progress as she recovers from her hairline fracture of the hock. We're very hopeful that she'll be back in time for the St Leger.
Crinkill Jewel will more than likely be given a short rest before she heads to Crayford for a crack at the Kent St Leger.
Yeatsie Boy has left the kennel as he was sold for a large sum after winning 4 from 5 opens at Coeventry. Yeatsie is a lovely dog with a bright future and we're sad to see him go but wish him and his new connections the very best of luck.
We were lucky enough to welcome a fantastic new dog to the kennel recently and he's one that should have a very bright future. He'll be given plenty of time to settle in before trialling.
We've another 2 very nice dogs arriving next week, both of whom should make good class open dogs in time.
After our good recent run on the open circuit, we are just 1 winner away from hitting our target of 50 open race winners for the year. We thought this would be a very tough target to hit when we set it but it looks like we should beat it comfortably. We're very lucky to have a great team of hard working staff at the kennel, a brilliant set of loyal and patient owners and a fantastic kennel of dogs.

Tuesday, 21 August 2012

Week Ending 19th August
Monday 13th
Just the one winner from today's BAGS meeting. Keeperhill Hawk kept up his excellent record since joining the kennel with an A2 victory. He won by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.54
Tuesday 14th
No trials for us today as we managed to spin all of ours before racing of late.
Wednesday 15th
We left it late to find our winner this evening as Butchers Bounty won his A2 1 3/4 lengths in 29.46.
Thursday 16th
A trip to Hove this evening with 3 runners. Slippery Patch made his debut for the kennel when finishing 2nd in a maiden 515 open. Patch was crowded early on and took a nudge at the bend but ran well enough. There seems to have been a bit of an over reaction to his defeat by a lot of people as it's fair to say with his excellent Irish card he was expected to win this race but it's very early days with this dog and he will be a massive player in the St Leger later in the year. Patch came off with a few problems and will need a couple of weeks before he runs again.
Barnish Booth looked like a novice pup in his 475m open as he moved to the inside rail and then swung right off at the 2nd losing a lot of ground. He stayed on well though to finish 4th and will be stepped up to the 515m next week.
Droopys Harper ran well enough in his maiden 515m race to finish 3rd.
Friday 17th
A poor day at Swindon with just the one winner from the two meeting's today.
Effernogue Load won his A3 by 2 lengths in 29.29.
Saturday 18th
A good night all round with winners at Swindon and Coventry.
Oddson Whiskey got a much deserved win in her S2. She turned handy off the 2nd bend and always looked a likely winner. Whiskey went on to win by 5 lengths in 42.48.
Gemstone Annie made it 3 wins from her last 4 races as she won another A2 in good style. Annie led on the run in to win by 1/2 a length in 29.17.
We took 3 runners to Coventry and came away with 2 winners. Glenbane Air got everything right in his sprint open and won nicely by 1 1/4 lengths in 15.96.
Crinkill Jewel found herself in a very moderate stayers open and went off a hot 1/2 favourite. She led around the first bend and went on to win by 15 and 3/4 lengths in a good 41.54.
Sunday 19th
Back to Coventry tonight and it continues to be our lucky track as we came away with another 2 winners. Gemstone Jack made it two wins on the spin as he ran a cracking race in his puppy open to win by 1 length in 29.69.
Yeatsie Boy made it 4 wins on the trot at Coventry as he again flew the lids to lead all the way in a decent quality open. Yeatsie won by 3 1/4 lengths in a fastest of the night in 29.33 and will head back there again next week.
Hey Diego and Penskey Rain both ran their hearts out for us to finish third in their respective opens.
In pre race trials, Taranis Rex continued his excellent come back as he beat kennel mate Pony Bride by a head in 29.77. Rex has again returned sound and it's planned he'll head back to Coventry next week to make his racing return. It's fair to say that the tough 485m trip is a bit further than Rex really wants and we did want him to make his come back at Swindon but they just aren't filling their opens at the moment so we'll take in a race at Coventry instead.
Pony Bride flew off the last bend and only just failed to pick Rex up on the line, she was a mile clear in to the drop and looks a lovely stayer in the making. She heads to Hove next week along with Crinkill Jewel and Five Alley Pub in a 695m competition.
Kilmalady Biffo had his first trial back this evening after a lay off and moved very well to win his sprint trial in 15.88.

Sunday, 12 August 2012

Week Ending 12th August
Monday 6th
A rare day off for the kennel as we were given no runners at today's meeting.
Tuesday 7th
A quiet trial session for us today but all 4 of ours went  nicely.
Boozed Aroma rejoined the graded strength after her 29.31 win and Witcombe Lady ran a lovely trial to win in 30.02. Her toe ligament injury has held up really well.
Inishmore Impact was given a confidence boosting solo sprint after suffering bad crowding in his last few races. He pinged the lids and stopped the clock at a decent 16.27. Hopefully he'll be given some better draws soon and can get a few clear runs. He could make in to a really nice dog with some luck.
Recent arrival, Mullingar Mer, delighted us with her first look at Swindon. She flew out and recorded 16.31 which is probably as fast as any new dog we've put round.
Wednesday 8th
No luck this evening from our 5 runners. Lady Jaro was the only one of ours to get a clear run and she ran her heart out to finish 2nd in her A1. Jaro has been a superb bitch for the kennel at at nearly 5 years old she still recorded a 28.93 tonight. Nice youngster, Smoothoppa Razor, continues to be given poor draws and again was in trouble tonight. She'll probably be given a short break soon unless she gets a change of luck.
Thursday 9th
An early morning trip to the vets with 5 dogs.
Motor Home will need a further month on the easy list with a strained hock and a problem in her hip.
Recent arrival, Forest Mollie, had her tonsils removed and will be off the track for 2-3 weeks.
Barnish Booth and Pony Bride were given the all clear as they were given precautionary check overs.
Bellmore Woody was given the all clear after arriving with a few minor niggles. He'll spend a couple of weeks on the gallop before he's given a sprint at Swindon.
Friday 10th
3 winners from today's meetings.
Gemstone Annie made it 2 wins from her last 3 races as she just got up on the line to win a good quality A2 in 29.20.
Witcombe Lady made a winning debut this evening as she flew the lids and led all the way in her A6 to win by a length in 29.91. Her owners have been very patient with this girl as she needed a good while off with a toe ligament injury so it was great to get off to a good start.
The incredible Lady Maud made it 3 wins on the trot and a brilliant 7 wins from her 11 starts as she led at the first bend to win her A2 by 1/2 length in 29.51.
Saturday 11th
This evening we had 5 dogs trialling before racing and 7 runners in 4 races.
The trials went better than we could have hoped with all the dogs delighting us with their efforts.
Slippery Patch, Taranis Rex and Barnish Booth made up probably the best quality 3 dog trial we've ever had from the kennel. Rex showed fantastic early and led all the way to beat Barnish Booth by a length and a half in a flying 28.61. Slippery Patch ran on strongly and was only a head behind Barnish at the line but led a long way into the drop. It was obviously a fantastic run by Rex who has come back better than ever after injury but I was just as pleased with the effort of Barnish Booth who'd been on the easy list since taking a bumpy ride on Produce final night. Slippery Patch looks to have the making of a really nice St Leger type and this will be his main target this year.
Mullinger Mer showed terrific early pace to lead about 4 lengths in her trial but Pony Bride reeled her in on the last bend and went on to win the trial by 3 lengths in a good 29.08. Pony Bride is a lovely stayer in the making and this was a good effort in only her 2nd 4 bend trial since season.
On to the race dogs and the night got off to a bad start as Flag Officer failed to make the pick up after going badly lame on a shoulder, he'll be off for around 2 months I would imagine.
Sligo Mick was up against kennel mate Inishmore Impact in the A2 and it was the less fancied Sligo Mick who came away with the win. Mick broke well and left all the trouble behind him at the bend and went on to win by 4 lengths in 29.18. Inishmore was again involved in bad crowding and this fellow may well be given a go somewhere else before he gets fed up of the game.
Kennel star, Ding Hero, made his comeback tonight after 3 months out lame with a hip injury and won a very good quality A1 in great style. Ding broke well and led every yard of the way to win by 3/4 of a length in a good 28.76. He's now won a brilliant 11 of his 22 races for the kennel. Hiding Escort impressed with his fast finishing 4th place in the same race.

In Other News.....
We've had a desperately bad week for getting races for our open race team as Swindon again failed to fill their opens and Coventry had to cancel their entire Sunday meeting due to lack of entries. We'll have a busy week next week with Hove and Coventry top of the list.
Taranis Rex will head to Coventry next Sunday for a trial before making his racing comeback there the following week. Although disappointed that Cov failed to race this week, we'll continue to support them as much as we can as I believe this could well be the best track in the Country in the future.
Noels Touch left the kennel this week as he starts his new life of luxury with his owners in retirement. Noels was a cracking dog for us and won numerous 4 and 6 bend races, the highlight being his all the way success in the six bend Owners Bonus Series final.

Monday, 6 August 2012

Week Ending 5th August
Monday 30th July
Gemstone Billy got his first career win as he led on the run in to win his A5 by 1/2 length in 29.79. Billy has plenty to learn still but hopefully getting his head in front today will do him the world of good. Every member of Swift Jade's first litter have now won races which is a great achievement.
Fishermans Leah cracked out and led all the way in her A2 to win by 4 lengths in 29.26.
Active Lark completed the days hat trick as she led all the way in her A2 to win by 1/2 length in 29.19.
Tuesday 31st July
Another very good trial session for the kennel.
Der Lone Razor moved well in his first go at the 685m trip to record 42.35.
Recent arrival, Slippery Patch, impressed in his first look at the track as he clocked 28.77. Professor Deejay returned to the graded strength after his 29.54 trial win. Taranis Rex delighted us with his first four bend workout in over 10 months as he posted a joint fastest of the session 28.66. Ding Hero looked more like his old self as he took the paint of the rails to record 28.66.
Pony Bride stayed well to pick up kennel mates Coolykereen Tar (29.47) and Lizzys Bar (29.59) to win her trial in 29.27. She looks a very nice stayer in the making and won't be rushed.
Boozed Aroma returned to the track after her split web to post 16.57. Witcombe Lady posted 16.96 as she returned from a toe injury. Recent arrival, Forest Mollie, delighted me with her 16.54 solo sprint.
Wednesday 1st August
Droopys Harper made it 4 wins on the trot and 5 wins from 9 starts for the kennel as he won his A1 in great style. Harper moved well down the back straight and ran a brilliant third bend to force himself through on the rail and stayed on very well to win by 5 lengths in a personal best 29.13. Harper looks like a nice staying prospect and will probably be stepped up to a sharp 6 bend trip soon.
Lord Sugar ran another good race in defeat. He was just picked up on the line tonight but always runs well given a chance.
Stanton Jerry and Noels Touch were both castrated this morning. Noels has a lovely home waiting for him with his owner and the plan was to have Jerry done so he's ready for when we find him his new home. Both came out of the op very well.
Portavoe Lass and Lady Lomasi both had their casts taken off. Portavoe's had a hairline fracture of the hock but it's looking very good and we are hopeful of having her back in time for the St Leger. Lady Lomasi has healed well although it's unlikely she'll return to racing and she'll be found a nice home.
Thursday 2nd
For the first time in a while we had no racing or trials on a Thursday. Several dogs were put through their paces on the gallop with Penskey Rain and Crinkill Jewel the most impressive. At over 4 years old and with over 80 races ran you could forgive Pensk for not being too enthusiastic about his galloping but the old pro flew up like his life depended on it. The gallop is an essential part of the training programme and it's a great place to gauge the form of our dogs.
Friday 3rd
Two winners from today's meetings. Gortkelly Hudini won his A4 by 3 1/4 lengths in 29.44.
Kennel mates Flag Officer and Hey Diego battled out the A1 between them and it was Flag Officer who just came out on top by a neck in a very good 28.87. Hey Diego lost nothing in defeat though and recorded his personal best time of 28.90 and is very much going the right way.
Saturday 4th
A couple of winners this evening. Lady Maud flew the lids and left the trouble behind her at the first bend as she went on to win her A3 by 1 1/4 lengths in 29.39. She's now won 6  of her 10 races and has exceeded all expectations.
Forest Ted rode a nasty first bend bump and went on to win his A1 by 1/2 length in 29.24.
We also had 4 dogs trialling before racing that all went well. Slippery Patch beat Glenbane Air by 7 1/2 lengths in a very pleasing 28.62. Hoots Mon who badly needed the run was a further 3/4 of a length behind. Coolykereen Tar completed his qualifying trials with a 29.42 spin.
Sunday 5th
A brilliant night for the kennel with 3 winners from 5 runners at Coventry and a track record run to boot!
Crinkill Jewel got the night off to a memorable start as she flew the lids to make all in her 6 bend open. She won very impressively by 5 1/4 lengths and it was no surprise when it was announced that she had broken Blonde Fletch's track record as well. Even though it's a relatively new distance there have been some very good dogs go around so this was a brilliant run.
Gemstone Jack quickly kept the ball rolling as he ran an unbelievable race to win his 485m puppy open by a length in 29.74. After early scrimmaging Jack already looked to have plenty to do going in to the third bend but was again crowded and he was left in what looked like a hopeless position. However, he fairly flew off the last bend and won going away and was a long way clear in to the pick up. He looks a natural 6 bend dog but will more than likely be kept to 4 bends until after the Nottingham Produce Stakes.
Hiding Escort got a bumpy ride in his 4 bend open but should improve for the look round. Penskey Rain ran really well in the 2nd division of the stayer's but was beaten fair and square in to 2nd place.
Yeatsie Boy made sure the night ended on a real high as he made it a hat-trick of Coventry open wins as he ran his best race so far. Yeats cracked out and showed brilliant early to turn in front of the favourite, Oneco Talent, who looked very dangerous out of the 2nd bend as he turned on our heels but Yeatsie wasn't going to be denied and showed huge guts to hold on by 1/2 a length in a personal best 29.34. He'll more than likely head back there again next week.

Tuesday, 31 July 2012

Week Ending 29th July
Monday 23rd
It's always nice to start the new week with a couple of winners and that's just what we did today.
Forest Ted won his A1 nicely by 1 1/2 lengths in 29.00. Teddy has come back really well from his wrist injury and hasn't lost too much of his old spark. He's been a terrific dog for the kennel.
Keeperhill Hawk got his 2nd win on the spin as he made light work of his double upgrade to win his A2 by 1 1/2 lengths in 29.52.
Effernogue Load ran well in defeat to only be beaten a short head in his A3.
Tuesday 24th
Another very good trial session for the kennel. Droopys Harper moved well in his 509m solo to record 30.46. He'd not been given a run for a couple of weeks so would of needed this spin.
Ding Hero stumbled at the start but ran well enough to record 29.05. It's been a while since he's had a 4 bend run so he should improve on this next week. He's being aimed at the Champion Stakes at Romford where he has some very good form.
Sligo Mick (29.38) and Motor Home (29.80) both returned to the graded strength today while Hiding Escort returned from a touch of lameness with a fastest of the session 28.93.
Recent arrivals Scaffs Misty (29.64), Irdu Brannagh (30.82) and Lizzys Bar (29.52) all went well.
Bookies Girls beat Professor Deejay by 1 1/4 lengths in 16.96. Pony Bride returned from her seasonal break with a pleasing 16.72 solo. Recent Poole arrival, Coolykereen Tar looked well suited to the big Swindon gallop as he posted 16.71.
Taranis Rex was again the star of the show as he recorded a fastest of the day 16.21. Rex has so far come back better than anyone could ever have expected and his injury is holding up very well. He'll be stepped up to 4 bends next week.
Wednesday 25th
2 winners this evening to keep things ticking over. Lady Maud made it 5 wins from 9 career starts as she led pretty much all the way in her A3. She held on gamely by a head in a personal best 29.40.
Butchers Bounty made the most of his favourite's chance to lead all the way in his A3. He also won by a head in 29.47. Der Lone Razor ran on well in the same race to be beaten just under a length and he'll be given a 685m trial next week.
Thursday 26th
Five Alley Pub made it two wins from 4 races at Oxford as he ran a brave race to pick up long time leader Farloe Mysterio right on the line. Wolfie won by a head in a good 39.75 and stayed well into the pick up.
Friday 27th
The afternoon BAGS meeting gave us 2 winners from 6 runners. Gemstone Annie got a much deserved success in her A2 as she led at the third bend to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 29.19.
Liscrea Premier just got up on the line to win her A2 by a head in 29.16.
Just the one winner from the evening meeting. Hey Diego, in only his 6th race of his life, won the A1 in good fashion recording 28.99. Gelert really is a lovely prospect and if he can improve on his trapping he could well make into a nice open class dog.
Chilli Hot Sauce got a bad re introduction to graded racing as she took a nasty fall on the bend.
Saturday 28th
A really good night for the kennel as we managed 3 winners.
Hiding Escort ran one of his best races so far as he won the 480m open race in good style. Henry showed some very good early to the bend and made it round safely as there was crowding inside, he went on to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a personal best 28.74. Barnish Booth was in the worst of the crowding and took some nasty whacks. He'll be checked over before he races again.
Penskey Rain ran a blinder to win the 737m open race. Crinkill Jewel was made 6/4 favourite in the same race but suffered plenty of crowding early on and it was left to Pensk to collar Wise Totty at the 5th bend. He went on to win by 2 3/4 in 45.20.
Motor Home provided the biggest shock of the night as she flew the lids and went on to win her A3 by 2 1/2 lengths in a good 29.11. Molly is still a kilo over weight and has only just returned to training following a shoulder injury so this run came as a bit of a surprise!
Sunday 29th
Yeatsie Boy took a considerable step up in class this evening at Coventry and handled it impressively as he flew the lids to lead all the way. He won by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.54. He'll head back there again next week.
Glenbane Air was out of luck on his return to racing as he was slowly away and got crowded on the run up. He'll improve for that run.
Kelseys Prince somewhat disappointed in his 485m open but was found to lame the next day on the shoulder. He faces round 6-8 weeks on the treatment table.

Sunday, 22 July 2012

Week Ending 22nd July
Monday 16th
A great start to the week with 3 winners.
Keeperhill Hawk got his first win for the kennel as he won his A4 in good style by 3 1/2 lengths in 29.32.
Effernogue Load got a much deserved win as he won his A3 by 1/2 length in 29.65.
Glendine Girl led around the first bend to win her A4 by 1 1/2 in 29.61. Glendine suffered a very serious shoulder injury back in January so it was great to see her back to winning ways for her very patient owners.
Tuesday 17th
A very good trial session for the kennel today.
Youngster, Irdu Gormlaith, qualified for racing as she recorded 30.61. Her sister, Irdu Brannagh, was just outside of grading in 30.96 but is sure to find time again next week.
Oddson Whiskey returned to the strength after her recent bout of coughing with a 29.75 trial win.
Sligo Mick delighted us with his return to the track as he beat kennel mate, Motor Home, by 6 lengths in a fast 16.32. Mick has been off the card with a blood disorder but looked back to his best today. Motor Home returned safe and sound after her shoulder injury she suffered a couple of months back.
Ding Hero and Taranis Rex were the star performers though as they recorded 16.15 and 16.09 respectively. Ding has been off the track for over 2 months with a hip problem so this was a great comeback run. We were staggered at the time Rex posted as he'd been off around 10 months after tearing his achilles tendon. Nick Colton has done a terrific job in getting this dog back to the track and we are keeping everything crossed that he stays sound.
Recent arrivals, Scaffs Misty and Lizzys Bar both pleased us as they posted the identical time of 16.58.
Wednesday 18th
Chilli Hot Sauce was the star of the show for the kennel this evening as she qualified for the final of the £15,000 Produce Stakes. Once again Chilli flew the lids and led the field at the bend, although Wilson went by her down the back straight, Chilli kept on very gamely to finish 2nd and book her place in the decider. It's our 2nd category 1 finalist and we're thrilled to be part of it.
Gemstone Jack had no luck at all in his semi final as he suffered some very bad crowding on the bend and could never get a blow in after that. Jack showed huge pace and staying power to the pick up though and looks a really exciting 6 bend prospect.
I Certainly May provided us with our only winner tonight as she led virtually all the way to win her A3 by 2 lengths in 29.38.
Friday 20th
A very poor day with only 1 winner from today's meetings.
Vevas Tiger got a much deserved win in her A4 as she stayed on gamely to win by 1/2 a length in 29.57. Active Lark, Shesstillakeeper, Lord Sugar and Liscrea Premier all ran well in defeat.
Saturday 21st
Although we didn't get the luck we needed in the Produce Stakes final we still had a great night and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. The terraces were buzzing and there was a great atmosphere.
Chilli flew the lids in the final, recording a flying 2.30 sectional but didn't quite have the pace to make the bend in front and got crowded back to fourth. We were always going to struggle after that but she ran her heart out for us and did the kennel proud to make the final.
We did manage a couple of winners on the night though. Barnish Booth landed a nice touch as he showed some terrific pace to move 5 lengths clear of a decent field down the back straight. Hernandez showed massive pace to make us work all the way to the line but Mickey just held on by a short head in 28.95. Mickey will strip a bit fitter for that good blowout and will be kept to Swindon if possible.
Flag Officer pinged the lids and made all of the running in his A1. Maverick won by 3 1/2 lengths in 29.08 although I'm not sure the going allowance was quite as fast as was given. Lady Jaro was a touch unlucky in this race as she almost made it round the corner before taking a bump.
Hey Diego ran well in his puppy race to finish 3rd while Kelseys Prince and Five Alley Pub suffered plenty of crowding in their opens.
Sunday 22nd
Yeatsie Boy was the star of the show this evening for us at Coventry as he flew the lids and led all the way in his maiden 485m open race. Yeatsie won by 5 1/4 lengths in a good 29.56. He's a lovely dog and is sure to improve with more racing. Hoots Mon got a troubled run as he finished 4th but still recorded his fastest time around there. Hoots would be much better suited to staying in the A1's at Swindon but he never seems to get enough regular runs there.
Crinkill Jewel again ran really well in defeat behind the brilliant Blonde Fletch but in a clear run race he's just too good for us, but to be fair he's too good for most dogs!! She'll probably head to Swindon next week for there 737m open.
In a pre race trial Glenbane Air returned to action with a 16.09 workout. He would of needed that spin after a while on the easy list and it's likely he'll return to Coventry for a sprint race next week.

In Other News....
Razldazl Dazl has settled in brilliantly in his new home and has made an ideal pet. He's with a lovely couple and is set for life.
Lady Lomasi is making a steady recovery from her broken hock and should only need a couple of more weeks in her plaster cast.
Portavoe Lass doesn't seem to realise she has a cast on as she recovers from a hairline fracture of the hock. It's difficult to keep her quiet but she has been a very good patient otherwise.
Stanton Jerry is still quite lame on his wrist but it's slowly beginning to go the right way. Jezza will be castrated soon as we start to look for his much deserved home.
The kennel welcomed some new and very exciting recruits this week. Slippery Patch is a very high class dog who has only ever run against the best Shelbourne Park has to offer. He won on his 6 bend debut around there last time out but he'll probably be kept to a stiff four bends for a while. Forest Mollie is a hugely promising youngster who won in a fast time at Newbridge in only her second outing. She still has plenty to learn but really comes with the 'could be anything' tag on her and we were delighted to have her join us. Bellmore Woody has some very good Irish runs on his book but it's fair to say he's not the most consistent of dogs. He was very highly rated as a youngster but has lost his way a bit. He'll need some time before he's ready to trial for us.
We've taken the open race tally to 30 wins this year so fingers crossed we remain on target for the 50 winners that we wanted. We'll certainly be working hard to reach the goal!
