Week Ending 2nd October
Monday 26th SeptemberA quiet start to what would prove a memorable week for the kennel.
Galley Crash ran a blinder to win her A2 in 29.30. Stanton Subaru remains out of luck as she was again beaten a hd in her A3.
Tuesday 27th
A busy but successful trial day with all 9 of our dogs grading on. Tictac Butterfly (29.32) ran a lovely trial and returned sound after a lengthy injury lay off. Ding Hero (29.22), Malbay Kesha (29.79), Nags Head (29.80), Fishersmans Leah (29.98), Scobys Flash (30.20), Calling Beauty (29.54) and Gortkelly Hudini (30.09) all pleased us with their workouts. Black Beach looked fairly useful recording a good 29.33 trial. He's not had much experience and could make up into a nice dog.
On to Wimbledon for the semi finals of the St Leger where Penskey Rain lined up in trap 6 in the 2nd semi. We had a 5 dog race but it still looked very tough on paper. Pensk trapped well and paced up to the bend in contention, it all looked a bit messy from where we were standing and Head It On Jason took a crashing fall. Fortunately he soon got to his feet and looked OK. Coming out the 2nd bend Pensk was now in front and in all honesty the rest of the race was a bit of a blur as we shouted on our hero with everything we had. He happily bowled along in front and missed a bit more trouble to win by 5 1/2 lengths in 42.38. It was a messy race and Pensk got plenty of trouble himself and is capable of better but we are all over the moon to be lining up in the final of a Classic race. No doubt we will be the outsider of the field in the final but our boy will be in perfect order and will give us everything he has once again. We cant wait for Tuesday to come!
Wednesday 28th
Two winners tonight. Master Rock got his 2nd win of the month when making a late run to win his A8 in 30.30. Stanton Polly also made it two wins for the month as she won her A3 in 29.67.
Thursday 29th
A terrific night for the kennel as we had 2 winners from 3 runners at Hove. Mercurial Star justified strong kennel support as he flashed from the boxes and led all the way in his 475m open to record a very useful 27.63. Kilmalady Biffo was given a chance in a maiden sprint open after his terrific recent form at Swindon. Biffo didn't trap at his best but showed cracking early to take control of the race going in to the first bend. He strode out very well to win comfortably by 2 3/4 lengths in a good 16.41. Both Sammy and Biffo will return to the seaside again next week.
There was not good news for our other runner Fancy Collar though as he broke a bone by his dew claw and will need an operation next week. He faces around a month on the easy list which is a massive shame as he's only just returned from a lengthy break. He still rates as one of the kennel's brightest star's though and I'm convinced he'll be a very good animal next year.
Friday 30th
A very quiet day with just the one winner. Mercurial Lady won her A2 a shd in 29.25.
Saturday 1st October
Flag Officer was the star of the show tonight as he won his debut race for the kennel in 29.17. It was a good quality A2 that Maverick won which is a very big ask of a young dog first time up. He looks a very nice prospect. Ding Hero ran a good race to finish runner up to Flag Officer and will improve for that much needed run.
Calling Beauty, Active Lark and Dance Izzy all ran well in defeat.
September Dog of the Month
We've had some brilliant performers throughout Septmeber but the award has to go to Kilmalday Biffo who won all four of his races during the month. He won two A2's (29.15 & 29.03), a top heat in a personal best 28.86 (with a lighting 2.27 sectional) and a maiden sprint open at Hove.
