Week ending 16th October
Tuesday 11th
Malbay Kesha showed she was none the worse for her first race when she recorded 29.45 in her trial today. New recruit Shirty Gerty won her trial well in 29.39 while recent Irish intake Riverdale Spiros pleased with a 16.44 sprint.
Hell Razor was retired today after finishing lame in his sprint trial. Raz was a brilliant greyhound for the kennel winning 25 races. He was a very gutsy dog who never knew when he was beat. He be sorely missed at the kennels when he retires to his new home.
Wednesday 12th
Baby Bubba provided the kennel with our first winner of the week when leading all the way in his A3 to record 29.56.
On the night we were delighted with Forest Ted's run in the 509m open, he was beaten just a neck after leading all the way to the line which was a good run considering he hadn't run for 3 weeks after a nasty spike last time. However Ted was lame the next day with a shoulder strain and faces another few weeks on the easy list.
Thursday 13th
A terrific night for the kennel down at Hove as we had 2 winners and 2 seconds from our 4 runners. Tommy The Wheel was desperately unlucky in his 475m open getting beat by the shortest of short heads on the line. He took a touch around the 2nd bend which probably made the difference in the end. Ding Hero also ran a good race to finish runner up on his first look at the track. He was unlucky to come up against the quirky Forest Hero who moved directly in to his path out the boxes and just kept pulling out more to beat us by a couple of lengths.
Kilmalady Biffo ran a brilliant race to beat the top class Sleeping Urban in the sprint. We were quickly in to stride and although the favourite had every chance in behind he couldn't reel us back and we crossed the line in a good 16.33. Biffo could make a nice sprinter and the National Sprint at Nottingham later on in the year might be worth a look at.
Mercurial Star continued his brilliant recent form when winning his 3rd open on the spin and 4th race on the trot when leading all the way in his 475m open. Sammy has had a great year and will be heading back to Hove next week instead of going to Swindon to defend his 509 monkey crown.
Friday 14th
Just the one winner from today's meeting which summed up another poor week at Swindon.
Nags Head led all the way when winning his first race for us in 29.56.
Noels Touch, Calling Beauty, Effernogue Load, and Black Beach all ran well to finish as runner up.
Saturday 15th
Kilmalady Biffo made a quick re appearance as he contested a 450m open. Biffo flopped out but showed terrific pace to lead around the first bend but didn't run the track at all and moved off wide at the second bend. I think Biffo would have won if he'd had seen the track before.
Penskey Rain was given a 645m blowout tonight after his 740m race at Hove failed to fill on Thursday. Pensk disappointed when only finishing third but he was off colour the next day and has a touch of kennel cough which at least gives us the reason for his poor showing. He'll be given as much time as he needs to recover and his next likely target will be the Kent St Leger at Crayford.
