Week ending 3rd September
Monday 29th
A good start to the week with 2 winners. Moody Mare recorded a personal best 29.57 when leading all the way to win her A4. Butchers Bounty flew the boxes to lead all the way in his A2 to record a good 29.36.
Tuesday 30th
Fancy Collar (29.17), Coolykereen Jig (29.89) and Northcamp Ellie (30.04) all went well enough in their trials today. Meanwhile at Limerick sales we purchased 9 new recruits for the kennel. We've 6 2010 puppies and 3 late 2009 dogs. It was a brilliant sale and we really have some cracking prospects to look forward to.
Wednesday 31st
A terrific night for the kennel as we managed to get a 1-2 in the monkey 509 final. Mercurial Star ended up beating Forest Ted by 1 1/4 lengths in 30.58 but the result could have very different if Ted had made it around the first corner without trouble. He flew the lids and looked destined for victory until the 1 dog moved off at the bend and crowded him out. Ted ran a terrific race afterwards though to push Sammy all the way to the line. Sammy fell out the boxes but paced up well but took a fair knock on the first bend. He showed great back straight pace and really battled hard to get the better of the favourite and stuck on well to win. A brilliant effort by the boys and a great result for the kennel.
Tommy The Wheel had got the night off to a wonderful start as he comfortably won his 480m open. Tommy was slowly away but paced up well and looked in control of the race at the third turn and stayed on strongly to win in 28.97.
Friday 2nd
A good day as we returned with 5 winners.
Stanton Sarah continued her excellent recent form as she won her A4 in 29.68.
Stanton Polly won an A3 at the 17th attempt! She led at the halfway point to win in 29.49 and thoroughly deserved a win after running well recently.
Boozed Aroma flew the lids to win her A2 in great style. It was only her 2nd race back from season so it was a terrific effort. She won in 29.39.
Kilmalady Biffo ran one of his best races so far to win his A2 in 29.15. Biffo broke slowly but showed terrific pace up to lead at the bend and never looked in danger of being beaten. Biffo is in great form at present and it will take a good'un to beat him next time.
Active Lark completed the days work with a trap to line win in her A2. Larky had looked very harshly treated after being put back in A2 after a best trial of 29.88 but got a bit of luck in running as she missed the trouble at the bend to win in 29.57.
Saturday 3rd
No winners tonight but there were a couple of good performances. Although having 5th and 6th in the A1 looks a poor result for the kennel, I was delighted with the runs of both Fancy Collar and Liscrea Premier. Pingu flew the lids and paced up very well but moved off around the 2nd bend and let the 5 dog up his inside but he battled really hard to in between the 3rd and 4th bends before running out of steam. He'll improve a lot for that run. Penny broke well but got trouble at the first. She fairly flew down the back and looked like the winner at the third bend but unfortunately she ran straight up the back of Pingu and her race was over. She'll be very interesting to watch next time out.
Superstar Lily returned after lameness to record a good 28.87 in her trial.
August Dog of the Month
There have been some good performers over the month.
Stanton Sarah has been superb again, winning 3 of her 6 races.
Mercurial Star won 2 of his 4 open races including the 509m monkey race.
But the award goes to Forest Ted who has won 3 of his 5 races. Teddy won an A1 in 29.01 and 2 509m opens at Swindon and finished a gallant runner up to Mercurial in the monkey 509m race.
