Week ending 10th May 2009
Monday 4th
A steady start to the week at Swindon with 1 winner from our 5 runners.
Field Son won his A2 in style. He flashed from the boxes and was never in danger of being beaten. He went on to record a personal best of 29.14.
Tuesday 5th
Another busy day with 9 of our dogs going to Swindon for trials.
Today, saw youngsters, Harlequin Heidi and Oaks Best added to the racing strength. Both should be making their debuts in the coming weeks. Puerto Bound returned from season with a pleasing 29.51 trial. She had previously won A2 in 28.94 and in time should make into a nice stayer.
Serene Lark had his first trial for nearly two months after suffering a cracked hock. He won his sprint trial in a decent 16.96 and came off safe and sound.
This evening I took 2 dogs to Poole to contest in Opens. Ballinorig Maeve, poorly drawn in trap 4, suffered bad crowding around the first 2 bends in her race and finished 5th. Forest Best ran with real credit to finish 3rd in his 450m race.
Wednesday 6th
A fantastic night with 3 winners and 2 seconds from our 8 runners.
Oddson Foxy opened her account to win her A8 contest in 30.28. Foxy is quite inexperienced and still has a lot to learn but is a very game pup who gives everything.
Nightgirls Annie, who ran a blinder last week, also opened her account to win A7 in 30.08. As said in last week's post, she has had a few problems recently and it was very pleasing to see her win her first race.
The performance of the night though came from Easy Eight. She quickly hit the front on the run to the bend but was headed going down the back straight. She rallied quickly though to lead again at the 3rd bend. She went on to to win by 4 lengths in a fastest of the night 28.79. This was also her personal best.
Shelbourne Swift and Not Yet are also worthy of a mention. Both ran very well to finish 2nd in their races.
Thursday 7th
Today we had our physio to the kennels. Many dogs were checked over, mostly with good reports. Lady Jaro, who suffered a cracked shoulder blade in her last race, is progressing very well. A return to racing is now looking more likely. Stanton Tom, who broke a bone above his hock when winning his last race, is also making good progress. We are hopefully that this promising pup will also make a return to racing.
Friday 8th
A day to very much forget with no winners. We did manage a couple of seconds and all the dogs returned safe, so things could have been worse.
Saturday 9th
1 winner tonight from our 5 runners. Bers Rose again ran a superb race to land her A2 in 29.15. She quickly hit the front and stretched well clear down the back straight to record her personal best time. Stanton Jerry again ran a good race, finishing 2nd in his A2.
